Map of Tulagi and Florida islands
« on: December 23, 2019, 06:18:06 AM »

It's Christmas time and New Year's and here is a small map as a gift. It is centered on Florida and Tulagi islands, located to the north of Guadalcanal. I choose the location on a whim, mainly because the terrain with mountains and islands looked interesting. When past a certain stage I realized it would contain parts of Guadalcanal and famous Henderson field airbase. There were by the end of the campaign on the island some 6 airbases, but I only included 3 in order not to clutter up the map. It also contains Japanese bases on Tulagi and a seaplane base on the adjoining island.

I included some of the main creeks on Guadalcanal, but due to Il-2 constraints on generating water, they do look much wider than they should.

This looks absolutely cool, must have been a hell lot of work to create this beautiful map.
Thanks a lot!

Some maps just never work out despite working on 3-4-5 different versions over the years. Others just emerge smoothly in a simple progression of steps. Luckily I have lots of good textures for jungles, tropical woodlands and Pacific islands ... texturing is basic, once the landscape looks good, the rest usually works out fine ...
