Martin Mars
« on: December 12, 2019, 11:04:00 PM »

The Martin JRM Mars is a large, four-engined cargo transport seaplane designed and built by the Martin Company for the United States Navy during World War II. It was the largest Allied flying boat to enter production, although only seven were built. The United States Navy contracted the development of the XPB2M-1 Mars in 1938 as a long range ocean patrol flying boat, which later entered production as the JRM Mars long range transport.

Four of the surviving aircraft were later converted for civilian use to firefighting water bombers. One example of the aircraft still remains based at Sproat Lake just outside of Port Alberni, British Columbia, although it is not operational.

This is the FSX Martin Mars model by Peter Hall and I take no credit in it's creation. I merely ported it into IL-2 1946 basing it on the Short Sunderland available here https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,50850.0.html. This also uses the cockpit of the Sunderland which is accredited to all those in the link above. Thanks to all.

Note that this uses six .tga's for the skins. I would never have gotten this kind of detail on one .tga.

** The planes are not skinnable! **

Tested only on B.A.T 3.7.2 so far.

Enjoy

I remember watching these back in the late 90's on a TV show called "The Air Show"... Hawaii Mars and Philippine Mars flying as fire bombers... Philippine Mars is now in a museum after being painted up in US Navy deep blue... THANKYOU!!  ;D ^-^

Bringing this vehicle is really awesome, thanks!

However, either I am missing something or the only difference between the two slots is the default skin?
If that's so, for a BAT integration, I'd use only one slot then.

scratch that, I saw there's different antenna arrays!

Also, if I read correctly, the Mars was to be a transport only, bombing equipment omitted in the prototype already. I'd also remove the bombing loadout accordingly. There's also a lot of remnants in the java about onboard gunner ammunition selection, which is not present anyway.
