cztx_BurmLower v2.1 map
« on: June 11, 2010, 07:06:36 PM »

EDIT:  This is a very old version.  Please look for BurmaLower_1942 and BurmaLower_1944 which was last updated August2016.
cztx_BurmaLower map version 2.1 is now ready for download here:
http://www.mediafire.com/file/lmnyunmntnn/BurmaLowerV2.1.zip

No changes were made to V2.1 which was in in the AAA Forum WIP Maps Forum. If you already have that then there is no need to download this one.

Installation:

unzip the downloaded file and put the folder named "cztx_BurmaLower" into your Maps folder found in this sequence:
IL2 1946/Mods/Mapmods/Maps/....

add the following line to your all.ini file:
cztx_BurmaLower cztx_BurmaLower/load.ini

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A very special thanks goes to Fabianfred who got this map started.
Thanks also to all the other people who helped along the way.

Version 2.1 improvements:
1. A more dry look with Agracier's textures. Most combat in Burma took place during non-monsoon periods which were very dry and dusty with desert-like conditions.
2. Use of new textures. Inspired from ideas from MrOblongo.
3. Corrected errors in roads/railroads.
4. Added Delvpier's Mods Bridges to almost all river crossings (except where ferries used).
5. Smoothed rivers to have a more natural look.
6. Eliminated the burmafield/rice paddies texture and replaced with a dry scrub brush texture.
7. Improved ed_maps for better in-flight geographical navigation references.
8. Added a couple new airfields and changed some airfields waypoints for some others.
9. More buildings populated in cities/villages.
10. Eliminated surf on beaches.
11. Included an extra Map_T file as an option. One has more jungle area south of Rangoon, around Bassein, Akyab area, and Ramree area. The option: "Map_T_Dry" does not have these jungle areas but has dry/desert looking textures instead.

Mingaladon Airfield, Rangoon in the distance.

Love it - thanks Czech. This one's gonna get well used by me!  8)

We've got just about every plane for this forgotten theatre too in which RAF played such a major role against the Japs.

Nice for Ki-43 missions too, banzai!   ::)

One thing puzzles me though; why did the AVG get financial rewards for shooting down enemy aircraft when US was already at war with Japan? Especially whilst RAF flying alongside had to just make do with the (dubious) pleasures of flying Buffaloes?

Were Americans just better at negotiating contracts then too?  :-[

Haha!  well, the AVG "mercenaries" had a contract with the Chinese government several months before the US went to war and so got paid bonus money for planes destroyed.  This lasted until the AVG was formally ended July 4, 1942.  After that, it merged with the 14th US army air force and Chinese pay ended.

Glad you enjoy the map so much.
I had one guy who had problems getting this map to work...come to find out, there was a conflict with one or two MODS (in UP2/HSFX).  He found which MODS conflicted, turned them off, and now it loads fine.

Thanks for the heads-up czech.

I've always been a fan of the Burma theatre both in the air and on the ground because it seemed totally differant to the war in the Pacific, with the Japs being on the offensive till nearly the end. RAF and US 14th AF have not had much coverage of the excellent work they both did with many brave sacrifices. The IJAAF also put up remarkable resistance compared to elsewhere too.

Over the weekend I finally joined the rest of the il-2 community by upgrading my game and succesfully installing UP 2.1.

Could you please let me know (here or by pm) which mods conflict with your fine Burma map, so I can turn those mods off - no way am I losing this theatre!

Thanks.

Ah yes, I found it.  The following is a quote from the fella who discovered it...
"One of my MODS, the "Perfect Map Texture", which can be enabled with Generic MOD Enabler made it impossible to load your map, B-29 Alley, Thailand, etc.  In other words, all the more "heavy" maps could not load because of this Mod."

When that MOD was removed all the  maps were able to work.

No probs here - already built and flown 2 missions; Spit Vc and Mohawk, makes a nice change from Imphal which is actually in India!

Anyways I'll keep away from that "perfect" mod - its probably one of the mods on JSGME which are only installed seperately if you want em.

Great job on the map - big and impressive with railways too for the Beau's and Thunderbolts. Can trace the entire campaign from start to finish virtually.  :)

Hi mate!

In the last days before living to holiday I have some issue with a big map and thanks to your reply I believe that this can be the cause because now I remember that I have installed it!

But I can't find it in my mods folder because I have surely changed it's name or mixed it somewhere , can someone give me only the class files number so I can try to disable it?

Thanks in advance!!

I got confirmation and like Flying_spud said, it's in the JSGME thing and named "perfect map textures."  Maybe someone else more experienced with MODS can help you find it.  Maybe ask a moderator??  Good luck!
