Hi jymp,

Get 1946 from Steam or gog. We will tell you how to get the most out of 1946 once you have it.

Hi jymp,

as whistler suggested, get Il-2 1946. Il-2 GB (BoX) won't cover the Pacific very soon.

BK,

are you sure it's not a one-time server glitch or something that falls under the caption "shit happens" ? I have BoX from the Sturmovik site, so I can't help you directly, but there are many people out there who have the game via Steam and I'm pretty sure your issue can be addressed.

We've had that BK topic before.
Actually Steam downloads tend to work faster than the IL-2 Sturmovik Site ones, at least that's the general consensus every time a new patch gets released.
I suspect it's something on BK's PC itself, maybe this one helps:

I'm a Steam IL-2 Great Battles user myself, and the update from Steam works about 10 times as fast as the direct one (I have both, as I'm using direct updates for offline mission creation and for the dedicated server).

Hello sniperton,

immediately after installation, the update took several hours. After completing the upgrade, I could not start the game. From a distance, Mike Storebror took over my PC and found the solution:

The game does not react after the first start attempt, you have to start the game a second time. I could never fix this error.

Because of these circumstances, I had lost the fun of BoS.

The subsequent problems (the long download time and canceling the downloads) have caused me to delete the "Steam" version of BoS from my HDD.

I would like to have the complete package of this series, but over 400, - € is too much. So I stay happy with my 4.10.1 & #DBW as I do not spend much time on IL-2 flying.

Best regards, Gerhard  :)

That "need to login twice" error has been fixed a few dozen patches ago.
As for the money it takes, wait for the next sale and you will get everything for almost 100.

1) Open the conf.ini file located in the IL-2 folder and set your screen resolution there
2) Confirm the game launches properly
3) In Steam, go to the "beta" tab (or something similar) and downgrade your game to 4.12.2
4) Launch the game and confirm you have 4.12.2
5) Close the game and move the whole IL-2 folder outside the "Program Files" path, in example move the game to C:/Games/IL-2/
6) Launch the game and confirm everything looks good

Let us know if you reach step 6 :)

Get ready to mod IL-2 8)

Three paths: VP-Modpack, B.A.T. or DIY (Dod It Yourself).

First know you can have as many instances of IL-2 as you want and therefore you can have VP-Modpack, B.A.T. and DIY/Other. That C:/Games/IL-2/ folder you have? Go ahead and duplicate it if you like:.

C:/Games/IL-2 VP-Modpack/
C:/Games/IL-2 BAT/
C:/Games/IL-2 Other/

VP-Modpack, with its "less is more" approach, is a good starting point. It has not been updated in long time but it is stable, it works very well and should cover most of your WW2 needs, including PTO. VP-Modpack's JETWAR Addon will take you to Korea and Vietnam.

B.A.T. is the largest super-mod ever assembled. Get BAT and you will have absolutely everything this game has to offer: WW1, Interwar period, WW2, Korea, Vietnam, Modern Ops... Mind you, BAT is huge: once you install BAT+Expansions your IL-2 folder will weight ~100GB.

DIY: Install one mod at a time. Time consuming and sometimes a frustrating experience. If you are interested in a few modifications only, then this is your way.

Make up your mind and let us know where you want to go next.

Cheers!
