Hello again Shessi, glad to see you still following this and liking what you see. 8)

I appreciate it's not important or needed, but it almost begs the question that a working crank/pistons etc for a cutaway engne would be good.

I think the best I could do as far as any kind of display to portray the pistons is concerned is essentially leave the cover off with the holes
the pistons would move inside displayed as painted holes, not much I know but that is what the other parts I have split are doing, giving a representation of what it might look like based on my experience of manufacturing components years ago.  Trouble here is I have no photographs of the split down engine block so I can only guess at things from what I see in the images I do have, that is most likely a good thing because if I had more information this vehicle might never be finished.  :D

Anyway, work continues but slowly, I am working on the bits and pieces down the driver side of the engine block:

Not too difficult this last bit, gives me a break before I tackle the other side. :o

Take care and be safe.

Wishing you all the very best, Pete. ;D

Hi Pete,
Yes, it's not important at all, so with the work load/detail you're doing, no need to put any more expectation on it/you! lol.

Cheers

The most difficult aspect of any project Shessi is knowing when to stop adding stuff, as you can see I am very bad where decisions like that are concerned, I just go on and on. :o

That is the reason I chose to release the project earlier, the model is usable for the campaign/mission builder as it is so if you are any good at 3d and skinning the necessary basics are there so you can all make changes and improvements yourselves while I tinker away in the background to my hearts content, who knows where it will eventually go. :D

Looking at the steering column in the photograph makes me realize just how much more detail is needed there. :P

Take care and be safe.

Many THX for this very interesting vehicle, Pete ...!  ;)

Now I wish a skinner were interested in giving it a desert camo ...  8)

Glad you like it Mick, it should add a little something different to your airfields I hope, more so when I eventually make a start on the Queen Mary combination. ;)

The intention is to add that scheme once I finish the vehicle, as well as army versions, however, I want to complete
the vehicle before I sort out that issue although essentially the bodywork should not now alter there is a possibility
changes might need to be made to each of the templates so I do not want to constantly alter things. ;)

The template is in the download so hopefully one of our talented skin artists might take this on board, there are many
here who would make a finer job of it than I can but again the problem for them is most likely that fact I have not yet finalized
everything so they will not want to put in many hours of work if there is a possibility for alteration. :-|

So, to carry on building or complete the textures and templates first for the body?

There are no lines on the existing templates and skins yet or any real weathering so the above is what
you have now merely replacing the Blue/Grey R.A.F scheme for Europe with one used in the desert. ;)

Looks good.

Glad you think so asheshouse, the desert colour does a little something to the model, we are so used to seeing the standard
R.A.F. scheme we forget it also served elsewhere. ;)  I wonder if Airfix ever added alternative schemes to their kit for this beast?

Супер!

Hello Mstislav, glad you think so. 8)

Okay then, as a little departure from building I have been experimenting with the desert and winter schemes:

The above are the stationary version of the moving vehicle but once the mission is running the moving version
does adopt the respective desert and winter schemes, I erased elements of the winter colour as they are usually
a water based add on that easily fades with use, not really sure if the R.A.F. actually used this scheme but it is
included for completeness.

I do not want o get too far ahead of the build as the more folders you develop the worse it becomes to add any
further alterations so for now I only did the standard folders for the moving vehicle, the static objects will be looked
at once the build is complete.

Now I have these three versions working I will add some lines and other detail to the templates/textures and maybe
upload a further version of the W.I.P., there have also been alterations to the dead version to allow for the three new
folders now in use and the Technics file has been suitably altered to allow these to work.

Take care and be safe.

Well, nothing like adding a few lines to the textures to show what a mess you made.  :D

The trouble with cutting in windows and doing any alterations is you end up like this, notice
the door hinge line at the bottom. o_O

Sometimes adjusting the vertices in the mapping can help a little to tidy things up a bit:

With the cab and the bonnet I went for a complete re-mapping to sort things out this time around:

The lines are now looking a little better as I straightened them up:

Into the sim to see if it looked okay with other parts:

That sorted out the complete engine cover and cab with closed doors, also I did the separate bonnet top
as I have the parts opened up on some vehicles, now on to the cab with open doors. ;)

Hopefully the crane cab will not be as bad because there was nothing cut into it, however, who can say
until I add some lines to that. :P

Nothing is ever simple with 3d, move vertices around, cut it up and attach things to it and all sorts of odd
stuff happens, meddle at your peril. ::(

Take care and be safe.

Hello again guys, a little more of the continuing progress for you. ;)

Here we see the updated template applied in game with the new lines for the closed cab:

Moving on to the cab with open doors the same procedure again, this time the doors are separated
and those and the cab re-mapped:

The doors were done first and as usual there were issues with things aligning so I took the best inner
and outer face detached them and joined them to each other before cloning the new door to make
the pair:

Anyway, after what seemed like forever and much messing about I finally got something that is usable
although not perfect once all the lines and rivets are reduced in opacity it should be passable:

And here we are the final result with a little weathering of both cabs:

Now all I have to do is go through the same process and update all the templates. :P

Take care and be safe.
