Best regards,
Piotrek

Thank you very much Piotrek for the kind words, really appreciated. 8)

I have uploaded the work so far to see how it behaves in other peoples game version as it is as well as to gain some feedback on how it looks so far.

When you make something like this over a long period of time you are seeing it regularly and there are most likely things you overlook so it is good to
have some fresh pairs of eyes give it a more subjective opinion as it is very hard to be critical of your own work sometimes so it is good to have it
viewed from a new perspective and help you remain grounded. ;)

Take care.

Wishing you all the very best, Pete. ;D

Not to demand any changes but I found some pics of one in Malta that shows the crane extended, a blue livery, caution stripes on the front bumper and a variant cab design.  Just FYI

they came from this site:  http://miliblog.co.uk/?cat=102   search for Amazon

Hello jpten, thank you very much for the images, really appreciated, you can never have enough information. 8)

I already have the bottom image in my info folder, as you see that vehicle has substantial changes to the R.A.F. version
I am doing, maybe someone else might want to build that using their own 3d with parts from my model, would be great
to have a number of different versions, the one restored in York also has many changes as do some of the civilian trucks I have
images of. ;)

The length of the crane in you photographs is interesting, I did not know the boom could be extended, certainly not to that length
anyway so that is valuable information to have to hand.

Before I go on to build the Coles crane itself I have still have some detail parts to add to the steering wheel
in the cab, these are nearly all made but still need mapping:

The bulk of the whole vehicle is largely done now, hopefully the crane will not be too big a task, there
is also the engine I want to add as well. :o

Take care.

Hello again guys I think I am finally finished with the steering column, got a little carried away I think though.  :-[  :D

Here it is mapped and painted and added to the sim:

There will still be missing items I am sure, however, time to build the crane me thinks. ;)

Hello again guys, been experimenting with the radiator today, not sure which one I prefer. ;)

Slightly larger alpha holes two pixel one set above the other:

These are just a single pixle;

The latter I think looks more closer to scale, the first the holes a little too large, any thoughts please?

Alternatively the previous painted version, however, I think alpha holes do look better.

Wishing you all the very best, Pete. ;D

Hello Flying H, the first two images show the two pixel inside and out of the radiator, the second two the single pixel. ;)

It is difficult to judge for me, the larger grouping of pixels means you see more of the metal around the holes, the smaller
seems more to scale, however, it seems as though you loose something visually because of the small size, maybe I can
find a middle ground, all is still experimental so hopefully I will find a solution to suit all tastes.

Wishing you all the very best, Pete. ;D

Nice model Thorneycroft! You developed it in great detail.
Congrats Pete!

Are there many polygons for model?  ...Two pixel look better

Thank you very much for your kind words Mixx, really appreciated. 8)

The model at the moment is a series of meshes held together with a hier, not just a single object in the normal IL-2 way and requires the
classes from Andrew to make it work, if I attached all the parts together to create a single object the model would be way above the old
3000 polygon mesh limit.  The chassis itself is nearly 3000 polygon, the steering column with the additions shown in a earlier post is just
over 2000 polygon.  :o

I got a little carried away detailing things I think. :D

The project began as purely a 3d build, trying to replicate the vehicle as well as I could with my limited abilities, adding it to the game was
a secondary objective, thankfully those files Andrew released will allow me to both build a detailed model as well as add it to the game, a
win, win situation. 8)

This is the third experiment for the radiator grill:

The small holes done with one pixel can cause some visual anomalies so I think you and Flying H are
right to prefer the first version with larger pixel holes. ;)

I will be building the engine block eventually so wanted to show the fan that cools the engine and so
embarked on the experiment, worthwhile I think to give me and you all a good idea of what can be
achieved.

Take care.

Wishing you all the very best, Pete. ;D

Loving the process Pete, good work fella!

Made me larf about grill size...dust cap colour or washer fluid density next maybe.....?  :D

Joking aside, good that you're into the detail in that way, and I would say colour/texture the grill first (black or main vehicle colour) and see what it looks like then. See the Maltese Thorney, hard to see I know, but being black and not very see through it makes me think that the two pixel would look better as the single pixel looks too see-through, and in reality from a short distance away it would look almost solid, after all it has to stop stones etc.

Cheers

Now don't get me started. :D

Probably the only way to have the grill looking like the original would maybe to use a photograph of
the original, however, that would not allow the effect I want so I am still tinkering with various ways
of using the alpha channel.

Here is the latest version:

The real thing, as you see a little difficult to replicate with the paint tools I have:

Colour of the radiator and its grill varies with each photograph, basically I am using the R.A.F preserved
example above as a guide, the one under restoration in Belfast is in the Green and Black Army scheme
that is applied to the grill as well and various civil versions are all Black, plenty of choice once I settle
on the final schemes.

That will obviously be the R.A.F Blue/Grey for the static object but for the moving version I could actually
do a desert version as well with maybe a separate slots for Army and civilian versions, who knows. ;)

Take care.
