Yes we are from the Dark Side. 8)

It already is.  ::( :D

There is much still to add so a final template is a way off yet PO_MAK_249RIP, I take it you meant finished skin. ;)

Right now I am avoiding getting to deeply involved in painting other than just mapping and colouring what I build so there is a place for each part
on a template, lines and markings will come once all is final unless someone else makes something first, however, that is unlikely while I am building and continually adding stuff.

Take care, be safe.

Wishing you all the very best, Pete. ;D

From many pics I have seen it seems the cable to secure the hook is just a common lifting sling.  The vehicle would probably be loaded to carry such a cable for lifting loads and to use it also secure the hook during movement rather than carrying two separate use cables.  I have seen pics using chain or steel twisted cables.  The pic you posted seems to be using a double strand cable.

Hello jpten, the cable is done and essentially represents a single cable that has a loop at each end secured with some type of ferule say, this will be attached to what can be described as a metal half ring with holes where a bolt is pushed in one end and the thread wound into the opposite threaded hole, this will secure the loop at each end of the cable, hard to describe but unfortunately even by reducing image size it is proving difficult to post pictures to better explain what I have done. ;)

Similar to the image I posted but only a single cable with loop each side, running from one attachment up to and across the hook and back down to the opposite side of the radiator before attaching to that side with another eyed bolt, not sure of the proper name I tried many and eventually typed in eye and bolt to find something that helped me make the meshes.

I prefer to use images as they bridge language barriers even if your explanation does not come across those looking in can usually grasp what you are talking about, unfortunately we are where we are.

Take care, be safe.

''This is gonna look bloody fantastic when skinned''...I chuckled at Pete's reply, poor Pete.  But I know what PO_Mak means, a tex with weathering, a used look etc.

Pete,
No, looks great as is, absolutely no need to change anything about the crew (except the head!), huge effort already.....just wanted to show you something...he he he...don't beat me!

(Found this Queen Mary trailer with a whole Stirling fuselage on it!!)

Cheers

Shessi

You certainly need beating Shessi, really really hard, seriously though, good will to all and so on and so forth. :D

Great images, thanks for posting, really appreciated. 8)

Amazing just how large a load the Queen Mary trailer can hold and I cannot believe just how high that boom can actually be elevated, surely it has no real use that high. o_O

Anyway, to keep you out of mischief maybe you can find a few more images out there that show various lifting combinations as I might do some next after I finish mapping the windows. ;)

The traveling sling to hold the hook and alterations to the various parts concerned with it are done and in game, unfortunately I am having issues posting images so cannot show you the work so far unless I zip those images I have saved and give you guys a link, depends how bored you are right now I guess. :P

Take care and be safe.

As you both state yep i meant when it has proper RAF markings etc as opposed to the blue in the screenshots.

Hello again guys, managed to upload some images finally, not sure what was the issue but anyway. ;)

It was necessary to shorten the hook cable and alter the angle to fit the travel cable:

Bits were cut out and others added before welding the vertices once it was shaped as I wanted:

Getting there:

Here is the issue I tried to explain to Shessi, to change the head wear would require a little surgery:

Hook done in its new position:

Construction of the fixture that would attach the travel cable to the vehicle:

Construction of one end of that travel cable:

All assembled and mapped just needs paint:

Into the game and fitted to the Thornycroft Amazon vehicle:

So far so good even if my cable is a little clunky. :D

Take care.

Pete,
Clunky...not at all, all the cables look superb, nice even curves.  Yes, you could a chuck a load more polys to get absolute perfection, but you would only notice the difference zoomed right in (and who needs to do that!).

I love the detailing you've done, the shackles, the main hook gear apparatus, and even the different thickness of the travelling tie cable to the hook gear.

I mean, even Gmax has it's limits, but still old and capable (v1.2 in 2005!) in the right hands.. ;).......that last pic is one smart crane.

Look at this!  Just found them (if you haven't already). Go to these pages, scroll down to the Thorney, and you can double zoom in and around in superb detail..https://www.flickriver.com/groups/894896@N22/pool/interesting/

Cheers

Shessi

p.s Yes strange, I found the same problem with attaching multiple pics, had to do one at a time.

p.p.s Just found this newer Airfix box lid from 2011, the original is nostalgic, but this is a pretty good update.

Glad you are happy with the new detail Shessi. 8)

Even though the model was started as a separate project from IL-2 I tried all along to keep each mesh within those normal parameters of the game to avoid getting carried away, it also meant that if nothing else I could add the moving version and its stationary, thankfully the class files that Andrew posted have enable me to upload the model as objects as well so all is good. ;)

I think it fair to say it has now gone the opposite way to how I intended things at first and is now a IL-2 project first and foremost, so much for my cunning plans, I cannot leave this game alone. :D

There is a image of a scale model out there that shows the Thorneycroft towing a Scammell trailer, I cannot find any information of a real one so have to assume it is one of those what if projects, thing is I am going to make a version of the truck with a fith wheel for trailer towing, who knows when all this will end. :P

Thank you very much for the link, there are some amazing old lorries in there, maybe other projects in the future if I ever finish this one.

Not much done this last few days except for mapping the glass:

I have enlarged the mapping and set it up on its own texture:

Looking through other vehicle projects in my install I found a upgrade of textures for the Kubelwagon done
by our resident artist Max, he had set the car windscreen on three separate sections for summer, desert and
winter with the dirt and such cleared away by the wipers, looks good, my attempt most likely not but I will
give it a go.

That reminds me I need to add a wiper to the drivers window. ;)

Hello again guys, got bogged down trying to sort the glass out but did get there eventually. ;)

Managed to make a rather simple wiper, only drivers side from what I see in photographs:

The alpha layer for the tga file and its tga:

In the 3d program:

Into game, from the front:

Looking from the back into the cab:

I was trying to avoid a pristine looking glass and have been messing with this for a few days now and managed
at least to try and replicate the wiper having cleaned some dirt off the window, the drivers side I tried to do
as if a cloth had been used by the drivers mate. :D

To say I have never quite got alpha channels is a understatement, after much tinkering I achieved something
at least using two shades of grey on the alpha channel, this stuff is really Black magic and there does
not seem to be much information about it, at least for IL-2 anyway. o_O

Hello guys, there is now a new update in the first post. ;)

As of the last few days I have developed artistic block or whatever you describe it as so in the meantime
I decided to post the work so far shown in the previous posts.

Please completely remove the existing folder you have as there have again been numerous changes.

Next up will be to fill this space with the engine, might take some time:

So still to do:

Make the engine.

Do a proper dead model.

Complete all templates.

Do the Lods.

Take care and be safe.

Wishing you all the very best, Pete. ;D
