v.3.7.2 Harrier - no VTOL
« on: November 16, 2019, 08:58:35 AM »

Installed BAT along with all the updates up to 3.7.2.
Started mission with my beloved AV8B and to my horror realized that it can no longer land vertically (resulting in crash) or take off vertically.
The problem is that long before BAT was released Harrier had 110% maximum power. And those 10 percent above maximum was exactly what allowed Harrier to perform VTOL.  But now this plane doesn't seem to have boost above 100%.
Can use this plane for short take off and landing though.
Am I missing something? Please help.

What loadout? Blank or with tanks maybe? Try different loadouts or none.

Vega updated this (and other) jets for BAT several times (in the 3.4 - 3.5 range of BAT). I presume, that the BAT version of the java and FM is now different from the old stand alone...

I made a quick test. I can very much take off vertically with many loadouts, just not with the very heavy ones, like all loadouts with external fuel tanks. With these I have to go STOL, which sounds plausible to me tbh.
No idea if this is realistic or what the max VTOL weight was IRL.

Oh, thanks for such a quick reply. I tried to lift the plane even with zero loadout - no joy.
If you would be so kind, can you check once more, when you throttle up your Harrier - does it go all the way up to 110%, or does it stop at one hundred?

Found another topic with the same problem, but no one answered back then.

100%. Turned vectors down 90°, it lifts smooth and easy, even with bombs and AIM9. Just not with additional tanks. Transition to horizontal is also quite easy.

Thank you for help.  I finally solved it due to your suggestion about loadout!  You were right - it's all about weight. I checked even with no weapons and tanks at all.
BUT! With 100% fuel in internal storage. That was the culprit.
As soon as I set 50% fuel, I could lift off at 95% power setting even with 6 missiles.
I guess it can be considered as a tribute to more realistic behavior introduced in latest patch.
Thanks.

This problem is to be considered SOLVED!
