I see it has the X Box logo but I understand it will be a standalone for PCs too. No idea on prices yet?? This is quite an old trailer there are newer ones on YT Mike.

Correct, it's not the one I wanted to post.
The 2020 news page is slightly confusing.

This is the right one:

There's a new trailer available.
Captured on X-Box, but nevertheless... stunning:

I don't know about some, granted the graphics look beautiful for this next generation simulator...

However, from my many experiences between the two giants, IL-2 still gets my vote, but what also does it for me is the heart that goes into the modding of the simulator as well as the fantastic community that was created from it...

Microsoft Flight Simulator does it for money... IL-2 does it from the heart...

My problem with Microsoft Flight Sim has always been the lack of a game.

Very pretty, very accurate flight models, but boring.

Flying from a to b is fine, but where is the hun in the sun? Where is the SAM chasing my tail? Where is anything to make me play the thing?

I mean even having something simple like getting funds for completing flights and using that to buy new aircraft would make it more interesting.

Does mean I have to completely re-write the renderer for my game now as well, so pretty pissed off really.

I plan on buying it.  I just built a new rig on specs geared toward being able to run it when it comes out.  (Runs IL-2:1946 and Prepar3d nice and fast!)

Nothing about a good civvie flight sim is ever boring to me.  There's plenty of interest in learning to fly, and in learning to fly well.  Mastering today's complex aircraft, modern navigational systems, coping with bad weather, or just nailing a landing or a maneuver are all a good enough "game" for me.  That's what I use IL-2 for about 80% of the time anyway.  And relative to Prepar3d, FS2020 holds out the promise of even more realism in the planes and weather, and some worthwhile sightseeing on the ground.

Related to this is the fact that there is no real damage model.

There's not much point to a vehicle simulator if there's no risk of bending or breaking the vehicle when you do something dumb.

Sure, you can model system failures and the game might stop after a collision, but your plane is otherwise immune to bad stuff happening to it.

Never mind specific combat damage modeling that models punching holes in canvas/aluminum/composite fiber and terminal ballistics.

Why have big, vicious anvil clouds generated by hyper-realistic weather generation systems if your plane doesn't get beaten all to hell if you fly into one?

Why have ground texture modeling if you can't tear up your landing gear or bend your prop when you try to land in rough terrain?

Why have collision modeling if collisions aren't going to rip big pieces off of your plane, change the way it flies, and damage or destroy vital systems?

Why have super detailed flight models if overspeed flight or excessive G forces don't pull the plane apart.
