Need a couple of .mat files for clouds
« on: September 08, 2019, 06:37:29 PM »

In looking over the 4.12 il2\objects\effects\PlaneCloud.java, I see a couple lines of code invoking .mat files for clouds:

Code: [Select]
        mat0 = Mat.New("3do/Effects/PlaneCloud/Cloud0.mat");
        mat1 = Mat.New("3do/Effects/PlaneCloud/Cloud1.mat");

I'd like to have them so as to experiment. But even a 2019 SFSExtract.lst file has no entries for them...

I don't want to guess as to their contents and simply cook up a pair. How to get 'em?

- In folder SFS_Extract_v31 create "filelist.txt" file.
- in filelist.txt add lines :
3do\Effects\PlaneCloud\Cloud0.mat
3do\Effects\PlaneCloud\Cloud1.mat

- run SFS_Extract_v31
- tab Tools... FileList Import (filelist.txt type) and select your new filelist.txt file
- do your extractions
- When you ask to exit the program it will ask you if you want to modify the SFSExtract.lst file. Say yes!

I don't own the 412 or I would have sent you these files!

Gabriel,
Thanks for the detailed reply!

I followed your instructions, and got a message saying something along the lines of there being no additions made. I searched  my machine and found a 2014 files list in another folder, which *did* have the two entries for those cloud.mat files. I put it in the extraction program folder (where the newer and bigger SFSExtractlst.txt already resides.) This latter file *also* had those two cloud.mat entries; I must have done my earlier search incorrectly.

Anyway, after all that, and after looking in *every* SFS file, those cloud.mat files never appeared.

I think these .mat files must have been introduced in a rather earlier game version, if not from the start. Weird to have them appear in detail in SFSExtractlst.txt (including with a hashed name associated) and not show up at all for extraction...

Mick,
I've already used a cloud mod for years, and none others I've seen ever contained these two particular .mat files.

Can *anyone* find these little buggers so as to extract them?

I just checked the 4.09 PlaneCloud.java, and as I suspected, they're referenced there, meaning they're not a more recently added element. Probably present from the start. But I just can't find 'em.

Thing is: The "PlaneCloud" is never used anywhere.
These files might indeed never exist in any IL-2 1946 set.

Kind of like the 'appendix', or 'tonsils' of Il-2 code, eh?
