White "spots" on water....
« on: April 14, 2019, 05:54:47 PM »

Have a good working install of BAT 3.6 now. When water=4 in my conf.ini, the water has white spots on the surface, which I'm assuming are supposed to be reflections. has anyone else noticed this? Aside from all the white globs, the water loks good to me, its opaque at the shoreline and moves like it should.

AMD graphics card maybe? Or DirectX mode? Neither support water=4 IIRC.

I think this has to do with "bigger" textures for the water, I believe something to do with an incompatibility between (for instance) carsmasters big water textures and il2ge. With the default water textures this does not seem to happen.

I get the white dots when I use il2ge (graphics extender) and don't use Carsmaster's water mod. When using il2ge, Carsmaster's water mod is recommended.

Nvidia card/OpenGL, forgot to mention that. If I dial it back to water=3 , 2 or even 1, the white spots go away, but the quality is way below what you'd want. I saw the other thread in WIP about ilge, and Blaubaers comment, so maybe Ill try dropping Carsmaster watermod and see what that does...

Beyond that, its runing GREAT and looks fantastic!

Can you post a pic? It's not the " sea foam " that your seeing is it? Like the white caps of breaking waves?  Water 4 gives you white caps.

If it is whitecaps, it shows in all instances of water no matter the size of the body of water. Pic below, the time of day makes the colors kind of funky but you get the idea:

ETA: Just tried the Carsmaster watermod, it still does the same thing...

Maybe Carsmaster's water mod is not installed correctly.  I (4.12, VP Modpack) have this appearance when Carsmaster's Water Mod is missing.

this is what the game manual says about the water settings, notice water 4 is not in it because its an unfinished/unoptimized setting

Quote
WATER (These additional features will only work on ATI 9500 and GeForce FX and later video cardsthat support Shader 2.0.)
We’ve added the following new user options to theconf.ini file, which control the water quality:

Water = 0:Fastest water, without groundreflection.

Water = 1:Normal water; ground and cloudreflections, cloud shadows.

Water = 2:Perfect water; same as Water = 1, plus wavy ground reflections andweather-dependent wave types

Water = 3:Provides maximum water quality using new Shader 3.0 technology (currently works only with NVIDIA NV4x cards, e.g., GeForce 6800).The sea waves are also fully animated and weather dependent.

Now look at the il2ge readme

Quote
Requirements
- IL-2 Selector (at least Version 3.4.2)
- Settings:
   - OpenGL mode - DirectX is not supported
   - perfect mode
   - conf.ini:

      (GLPROVIDER)
      GL=Opengl32.dll

      (Render_OpenGL)
      HardwareShaders=1
      Water=0

VPmedia install, conf.ini water=0, with IL2GE, no other mods active, NVIDIA 980, latest drivers
Something's up...

If you put carmaster mod in your WAW folder or others aswell it should solve the problem. the sea looks great. pity for the white foam that doesn't show as when you disable ilge. But we can't have everything, or can we? hahaha

Putting Carsmaster water mod into the #WAW3 directory got rid of the white splotches. Thanks for the suggestion!

ETA: I also put a copy in my #SAS folder, VPMEDIA modpack also fixed.
