the shift-tab error console must be bought up while in FMB, only once the map has failed to load.
the error message you describe is not a map failing to load message, it's a memory crash error, basically. for these, i'd suggest using one of the alternative exe's available.
most of the problems you are talking about, re: overwriting and where to put folders, etc, boils down to basic moddong knowledge, stuff that should easily become apparent to you if you read the tutorials on the forums, and learn the basic modding file/folder structure.
i'm not going to repeat it all over here again, it's already been discussed ad infinitum....
try and do a bit of research, learn the basic rules, and it will be much easier to figure out what's happening.  :)

I finally found that error log for the Benghalli map etc. Hopefully this helps.

I finally found that error log for the Benghalli map etc. Hopefully this helps.

[13:41:40]   INTERNAL ERROR: Can't open file 'MAPS/_Tex/Avala/benghalli/avalabeachrock.tga'


The above line will be the reason why the map doesn't load for you. The file 'avalabeachrock.tga' is apparently not in the correct location as specified by the map's load.ini.

What to do?

Find that file and put it here, in this folder:

MODS/mapmods/maps/_Tex/Avala/benghalli/

Q: are there any shallow water textures that are NOT map specific?

You can use any texture you wish for shallow water. All you have to do is try them out and see what the effect is. Sometimes you can get surprisingly nice looking shallow water (and the corresponding 'creep' onto land) by trying out textures that go with the general color scheme and tone of land textures ...

Here are two textures for the SNARKjungle map.

BA_Shallows_SNARK_A.tga is to go with the green ocean color that comes in the map.



BA_Shallows_SNARK_B.tga is for using it along with blue ocean color.



I posted a pic of my texture in Farrang's thread and he asked me to upload the texture so here they are... 8)

I've included the numbers for the blue ocean that Viking4570 made along time ago that I believe are the very best for a beautiful pacific ocean. So if you want to change the ocean color you may but the green that is the maps original ocean color is just as beautifull for the area the maps is set in.
