Ok - here's the part 1 at last:
Updated May, 8, 2018This pack includes 7 planes: the Ansaldo A1, Sikorsky S12, S12bis, S16-3, S16ser, Mosca MB and Mosca MBbis
Also included a special mod for reproducing the historical characteristics of rotary engines: no throttle, on some engine you can use the mix to indirectly modulate the rpm, as soon as you start the engine you go for the maximal power, the magneto switch is used to "blip" you can then get 0, 1/3, 2/3 or 3/3 of this maximal nominal power - in theory as when you are in flight you must take the inertia of the engine-propeller rotating unit into account. To slow your plane in flight (without "blipping", you raise your nose), and to increase speed, you duck. Remember landing was most often done by using progressively the blipping switch till cutting the engine completely in the last step of the landing approach. This mod also brings a solution to the overheating problem that has plagued ww1 aircraft in Il2.
Skis will appear on these planes when you choose a winter map.
Notes:
The Modact versions (4.12.2 and 4.10.1) can display the debugging info onscreen (it gives interesting info that helps understanding how these engines run) just replace the files in the RotaryMotor mod main folder by those in its subfolder "HUD info"
Warning
1) the AI does not (yet) fully understand how to take off with this rotary engines aircraft (except when they are on skis where the take off are fine!)- it knows however how to fly them .Another funny thing with this point: in HSFX5, these AI can take off with these aircraft even when they are on wheels and not only on skis.
I need help here as I do not know how to deal with AI behaviour 2) this mod modifies the behaviour of all aircraft defined as Rotary in their FM - except the AI take-off problem this will not cause trouble with other aircraft that have been defined as such in their FM - Just take into account that some aircraft historically equipped with rotary engines are equpped with radial or even inline engines in the game (for instance most of the Nieuports) - I'll try at a later date to rewrite more historical FMs for these last planes.
3) the same FMs bring different behaviour between the versions of the game - this is especially striking with these planes - even between 4.12 and BAT . As a rule, the more advanced version of the game, the better behaviour.
