My thought is that any mods will have to be approved , like the scripted campaigns. A community map maker joined the team very early , and I think you can sell mods approved by Dev´s. I do not think it will be a modding community per se.
I hope a 3 d artist and coder can make a cockpit for bombardier on the A 20, and I can pay for that mod, gladly. But that would mean some access to their tools

Funny thing is they now have the ability to enable/disable mods, they have a board section for mods, but they don't have any documentation on how to mod the game at all.
From the single mod available right now, which has been carried over from Rise of Flight, I understand that the game files can be superseded by corresponding files in the "data" path (?).
If that's true and all files in the "data" path are accessible, then "cosmetical" mods like this lens flare thing, clouds and sounds seem to be in reach first.

Cheers!

Sad because they haven't added any documentation or details on how or what can be modded :(

Happy because maybe the future is really opening up to the modding community :)

They're wanting to see what all powers and reverse engineering we can do - only for them to find ways to break and unnecessary over complicate the modding process.  :P :))

I think they're just waiting to see what we can do and how we can push ourselves until they go WHOOPS NO MORE MODDING SRY.

Well it's all pretty confusing regarding what the point of Mods on in really is?
Jason has pretty much said the files are encrypted and it's up to modders to figure out how to mod, yet in another thread he has said any messing with the files will lead to a three month ban.
With no tools or guidelines it seems they want someone to hack/crack the files.....and then risk being banned?

This post sums it up?

Exactly my feeling MP.
It's incosistent.
I also feel a certain tension in Jason's words and for myself I concluded that I'll wait until the dust has settled concerning the 3.001 patch and all the bugs it has, then leave another 2-3 weeks for Jason & Co. to relax, and then ask again what their intention is towards modding.
Because with the current statements, essentially they're asking for someone to do the reverse engineering required to hack into the dds files, just in order to ban him and maybe file a lawsuit.

Cheers!

It’s only been a week.  I’m sure things will sort themselves out.
Earlier today Ankor released an updated gtp extractor that correctly reads the files, so it’s pretty much a green light from here on.  Hacking for a win on mods-off servers is a different story of course and will get you banned.
