Eh... No sir 8)

Let's skip the "smaller" one and take a closer look at the 2400G straight on.
It's Ryzen 5 CPU, clocked at 3.6 GHz, Turbo rate is 3.9 GHz.
Not bad.
Multi-Threading Performance is great, but doesn't play any significant role for IL-2 1946 or IL-2 Great Battles.
Single Thread Performance is mediocre: 1916 Passmark points. That's damn close to the 1898 points of my 7-year old i5-2500K. And mind you: My CPU becomes a bottneck in IL-2 Great Battles, and it is the bottleneck in IL-2 1946 since day one.

The GPU part is an RX Vega 11.
Eww...
G3D Mark = 2134 points.
My 3.5 year old GTX 970 scores 8577 points. A contemporary 1070Ti (this is what I'd love to buy when prices become reasonable again) scores 12286 points.
This GPU plays in the league of a 7-year old GTX 550Ti. Not suitable for IL-2 Great Battles at all, barely feasible for IL-2 1946. It's being humilated by any dedicated graphics card you would buy.

No deal.

Cheers!

Hi friends,

I have been away from the forum ... and the gaming ... for quite some times, for various reasons, and I'm currently setting up a new infrastructure to be able to play again. This includes a new computer ... and a new graphics card, my old one is probably a good candidate for a technics museum.

However, I'm just a lousy pilot, playing offline anyhow, so I'm not opting for the high-end cards, but rather something between 80 and 120 Euro (or around that). I had a Radeon before, and was quite happy with it. I know that nvidia is quite common around here. I haven't been happy with nvidia at work; mostly working with Linux I've had quite some troubles, so I'd rather look for another vendor. I won't just have a Win7 on my new machine, but a dual boot with Ubuntu.

Yet I've played only "Il-2 Sturmovik", but probably in the future I'll try out the "Cliffs of Dover" and the "Battle of Stalingrad".

What kind of graphics card would you suggest me to choose for a (yet to be configured) new computer?

With all of my best greetings and wishes,
Yours

80 to 120 EUR for a graphics card these days unfortunately means that you have to pick one that's barely capable of running "IL-2 Great Battles" and probably completely incapable of running CloD.
Within that range, the best bang for your bucks would be a used GTX 960.
A GTX 1050 Ti would give you roughly the same performance but it would come at a price of about 150 EUR, so apart from having the newer core and therefore less energy consumption, this makes no sense.
Of course a GTX 970 or 1060 would be much better, but that would get you in the 200 EUR range.
Anything above that, the prices a rocketing thanks to the crypto currency hype.

Here in Europe it went down by 50 bucks since my last post.
Which means: Yes, I'm growing old and the card will be vastly outdated before it'll even reach the emission price again :P

..tryed last year MSI 1050TI with i5-4670+Win7 - it brakes in Black death.ntrk, Perfect mode ON. From 30 to 6 fps - badbadnotgood.

..for us it start to be a good news when price return to 2016. But its never happens thanx to our modern government.

Thanks for your fast answers!

Probably I should rather have asked for "bottom end" cards without setting a price, it seems to me.

So if I correctly understand 200 Euro would be the lower limit of what I'd have to spend, with GTX 970 or 1060 as examples, right? Waht else would there be in the "empty pockets low end choice" if I really want to start with CoD and BoS?

Thanks, best wishes

"No, you can't to start in High graphic settings with GTX1060 in BoS"(RU BoS fun's experience). So, GTX1070Ti only.

Not correct.
1060 can handle the game in Ultra Settings.
There's a couple of users running it like that, e.g. here: https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/34226-shadows-settings/

Google translator, sorry:

"In the game lags are observed at high settings with synchronization turned on and on some servers the game in the flesh before the slide show is very slow".

Zetexy (fun) about his GTX1060 6 gb:

"is forced to replace it with the recently appeared Geforce GTX 1060 with 6 GB of video memory. The new video card produced a noticeable increase in all games (for example, in ARMA 3, a gain of one and a half times) except IL2 BoS. With old video card(GTX480) I felt quite comfortable on average graphics settings, even on fields with a large number of objects. But how am I really surprised that the new video card Il2 BoS works a half to two or two worse than the old one. Especially surprising is the unjustifiably low FPS on the ground even if you just put the airplane on the field in the editor without loading any objects from the template (ie there are no objects of the field, no bridges, no villages, no cities, just one plane is on the map where there is only trees). Reducing the graphics settings especially on the FPS does not affect. After reinstalling drivers FBS rides from 6 to 60. Low uncomfortable FPS continues. NVIDIA drivers behave very strange. Only once at the start of IL2 was all unprivileged smoothly, FPS below 25 did not drop, the graphics processor was on average loaded by 40%, I flew, I enjoyed the freedom, I wrote down a small video with a shepherd, a repeat video. But already at the next start again, everything returned as before, the load on the graphics processor is about 20%, the fils are sickeningly low FPS, friezes when the screen is darkened at the end of the mission (and at the "dilution" in the beginning too), in the recorded shedouple video some failures FBS and friezes. I tried everything at a minimum to remove, nothing helps. With friezes, the FPS does not sink in, so I do not even know what the trouble is. "

"i7 7700 graphics card 1070 RAM 16 gigs, the game is installed on ssd. The proz is loaded by 15 percent, the video card by 60 percent. FPS is stable 60 but there are mini friezes, infuriates just tin as. Settings to a minimum also do not help. Here's a video of how sad everything looks."
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TRDZwodqj7g

"I tried differently. Anyway, there are some lags and jerks.
If you turn off the vertical, FPS keeps from 61 to 170. But wildly rips the picture.
At the same time, a GPU loading of 61% A CPU near 20-50%"

"I'm not in favor of conspiracy theory and other things, but something tells me that drivers have code that slows down old cards and encourages owners to buy new video cards. Why did I decide this? Everything is simple, the reasons are two - this tweak almost does not give a gain on the 10th series and the old drivers, in particular 376.33 are removed from the archives on the site nvidia. Why do this? That's right, to deprive us of the way, to make the work of the current video card more productive."

That's partly different cards, partly user error, and finally conspiracy theory.
I won't care too much for any of these.

Fact is, I've got a budget PC, i-5 6500 with GTX 1050 Ti and only 8 Gigs of RAM, and @1920x1080 I have no problems with running BoX in Ultra. Some settings are tuned down a bit (shadows to "medium", landscape distance to "3", visibility to "70 km"), but a constant 60 FPS is easily posible even with a mediocre system in SP. MP might be a different story, and the higher resolution you want, the more beefy PC you need, while for VR you actually need a real monster to run it smoothly.

Edit: It seems that the various graphic presets are for the various resolutions, so if your run the game in Full HD, you won't see any difference between Ultra and, say, Balanced. Ultra seems to be for 4K, High for anything beyond Full HD, so it doesn't make much sense to run BoX in Ultra if you only have a 1080 display. Just my two cents
