Hail the frame rates 8)
Seriously, I think that's a performance consideration.
Or even not.
Maybe it's just a monday morning brainfart.
In 1946 we'd take a look at it to be sure, here we're left with what they give us.
Life's a beach bitch.

Best regards - Mike

Well I like without icons better. Can sneak around better then. Online icons on is actually harder. Navigating in winter-maps require the nav aids down loadable on Site and timing with clock. Summer maps  are easy, estimated course and landmarks.
But it would be a nice change flying with icons now and then

Probabaly it was. Even today the saying goes: "if you have problems with framerates, get rid of the overlay!"
Performance is one thing, game logic and user needs are another, and in this latter respect I feel that the devs of BoX didn't pay due attention to what had already been achieved with good old Il-2.  ;)
BoX for me is like an overgrown kid with mature muscles and an infantile mind.

I'm just reading myself in on how to make missions / handle the server in BoX. We'll see what comes out ;)

Offline I fly with everything off except object icons. It would be great if they could be customized, though.
I think that's the way I prefer it for now as well. I can't stand that course/speed/alt/weapons HUD in the lower left (couldn't in '46 either) ..

So far I favour object markers on as I can't find anything without them (yet). On the other hand those do remember me too much of the "wonderwoman view" in '46 (markers are shown even if objects cannot be seen behind window bars/the plane, arrows pointing to objects out of view etc).
I prefer to keep the technical HUD however as I'm used to it.

In any way, I'm looking forward to meet you guys on the server :)

Best Regards,
skylla

Well the community can be a bit harsh, the mission builders are pretty helpful. I found a straight forward mission relatively easy to do, tedious as hell but not difficult. I do not know if there is any changes in that regard.
When it comes to triggers and coding I am clueless, but I have to say the mission editor in this game is and I think always will be bad in user-interface. But they say it can be done a lot with it, I guess it is the lack of common sense I miss in it.

FYI there's a mod (primarily designed for VR, but also usable for flat screens) that masks out markers when they are covered by bars or the rest of the airframe. It's not perfectly what you'd prefer, as arrows are still shown when the object is simpy out of view (but not blocked otherwise). The mod is highly customizable, the guy developing it listens to suggestions, and he told me that customizing icons (similar to what we have in old Il-2) is an option he's considering.
For flat screens it's sufficient to install the "Il2Bos part" as a JSGME mod.

FYI, the devs aren't leaving old issues behind as you can see in the latest Dev Diary post:

That's good news, and the reworked map does look great as well.
Looking forward to the next update, then ...

Indeed Skylla, the next update is something we're all eagerly waiting for.
And this time, even BoS "only" owners get a true impressive upgrade with that new Stalingrad map.

Cheers!

My current problem is the use of this game, I seems to not quite find my thing to do. I simply  wish for more complex management of planes and such things
