Starting problem (IL2-1946)
« on: October 03, 2017, 03:37:58 AM »

My first topic, hello all!

Well, I'm playing IL2-1946 for multiple years now. Sadly since ~5weeks I can't start it anymore.
When I try to run the exe, nothing happens.

PC specs:
- Windows 7 x64
- 16GB RAM
- CPU AMD FX(tm)-4230 4x4GH/z
- card AMD Radeon (TM) R9 380Series

It worked well on my PC, I didn't change any hardware. Also, the game is from the CD without any changes.
I tried everything I've found around the internet, from compatibility mode to other changes.

I hope one of you has another idea to solve this problem.

Hello and welcome !

See in <main folder of your IL-2>\Quicks
Delete file "LastMission.quick" !

Retry !

I don't have any last mission left, it's already a new installation.
No mods are in use.

Run il2setup.exe (main game directory) and re-set the correct values.

Edit:
SAS ~ Epervier had in mind the file:  .last.quick

Do you use No-CD exe? If not - try it.

You beat me to it by a few seconds 8)

If that's really what solved it and the issue came up 5 weeks ago only, then this means that SikasyExa's Windows 7 hasn't been updated for the past two years o_O

Best regards - Mike

One rule is, never change a running system.
I didn't change anything between the time where it worked and the time I wasn't able to run it.

Obviously I updated everything that is necessary. All other games (even old ones like AoE2) work fine.
I already tried the no CD-exe, doesn't work.

Is it maybe something with DirectX? (as already said, all other games work without any problem)

Now that nothing seems to work and there's no single indication what's going on there, things cannot get worse, so...
Install the latest selector please: https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,16403.0.html
Once you did, run "IL-2 Selector.exe" and choose "Stock game".
Save your settings.
Start the game using "console.exe" and let us know what the console window shows.
Post a screenshot if necessary.

Best regards - Mike

Nothing more to me except reinstalling the game. Copy the entire game catalog to another place. Uninstall and reinstall. If you move - all the files you need will be recovered from the old game (missions, settings, skins etc).

For now, stop it - maybe someone will come up with something ...

I did that already multiple times, with different directories.
