And B17s.

Thanks for looking and for the comments guys.
Camouflage and weathering are a big part of the fascination I have had with WWII planes and the explosion of wartime pictures on the internet have added fuel to the fire.

I have, in the past, built a lot of 1 type:

That picture is from 1999, my first real herd of planes.

2015 herd is around 15 of these:

2016 herd is 6 of these:

2017 herd will be 12 more of these:

Eight more P39 Airacobras, 4 more P40s plus several rehabs of built ones and a bunch of Allied and Axis ground vehicles in the same 1/48th scale.

I guess I should be building instead of talking, eh?

Crappy picture but the factory is open.
I had forgot how there is actually no easy P38 in 1/48th scale.
Those below are 1 Academy and 5 Minicraft, basically the same molds and poor fitting parts, not quickly done.
The oldest P38s, Monogram, now Revell  are somewhat dated with raised panel lines but still acceptable for me.
The others, Hasgawa, etc are just too expensive and not all that great according to reviews.
Cheap is good for my type of hobby.

Small P38 update, lots to do still.

Rare natural metal P39, served at Guadalcanal in 1944.

Thanks Ivan, my model building is strictly for enjoyment, they might look ok from a distance but close ups show all the areas needing more attention.

Modeling is just like flight simming, there are rivet counters who buy a $30 kit and spend  $100 more on after market add ons and casuals like me who do not.
I do buy extra decals though.

Building plastic models seems to be an activity for young and old, those in the middle stop to deal with real life, women, work, kids, etc.

Now kids are mainly occupied by the 6 square inch screen in their hands so other activities, such as looking up, are fading from human life. :)

Here is a before and after.
I never used to clear cote canopies and have many like this:

Pop them off, clean with soap and water, spray with clear cote and voila, see the crappy interior job. :)

Excellent model making and painting.  I used to build a lot of Airfix,Revell and Monogram...1/72.1/48.1/32 and the Revell scaled to fit to box in the late 60,s early 70,s

I tried to get the grand kids interested in this, but has,nt it got very expensive!

 Series 1 Airfix in the 1960,s cost same as a pint of Beer.....2  shillings...ie 12 1/2 pence..

Now Airfix Series 1, using the same ancient  moulds and newer issueof  aircraft are costing @£10  or more...

As  I work out inflation on the Beer standard ... That,s now  4 pints of beer.

Granted the kits are super, super detailed but to get new folk interested they need to be cheaper

Thanks Jimbo947, sorry for late response, internet down from the flooding till today.

We have a bayou 50 feet behind our house and it got to our back door but not in.
Some neighbors not so lucky and tens of thousands of people in the area have lost everything, sad times for all of southeast TX and parts of Louisiana.

Fortunately I live on pretty high ground
Hope the floods start receding and there ain,t any more hurricanes heading your way

Odd that I like Flight Sims and Flying... and regularly experience Ryanair,s White Knuckle Landings.. I think they come the closest to what an Aircraft Carrier Landing is like... Anyhow

I do some plastic modelling to get the grand kids interested and away from endlessly thumbing through their mobiles... so far with not much success...It takes ages they moan. :-X

Anyhow,s, my main interested is wooden ship and transport kits and although they  seem expensive I can,t seem to justify £20/$30/23 euros on a 1/72  aircraft ,no matter how detailed...

A wooden ship takes me about a year...I can build a 1/72 aircraft in less than a week.. 50 Aircraft a year..expensive.
 Here,s a panorama of about 9 years work...A couple need a bit of T.L.C
