It was the SOE Secret agent Spies favorite aircraft  8)

In 1941 a new squadron, No. 138 (Special Duties), was formed to undertake missions for the Special Operations Executive to maintain clandestine contact with
the French Resistance.
Among its aircraft were Lysander Mk IIIs, which flew over and landed in occupied France. While general supply drops could be left to the rest of No. 138's aircraft,
the Lysander could insert and remove agents from the continent or retrieve Allied aircrew who had been shot down over occupied territory and had evaded capture.
For this role the Mk IIIs were fitted with a fixed ladder over the port side to hasten access to the rear cockpit and a large drop tank under the belly. In order to slip in
unobtrusively Lysanders were painted matte black (some early examples had brown/green camouflaged upper surfaces and later examples had grey/green upper surfaces)
operations almost always took place within a week of a full moon, as moonlight was essential for navigation. The aircraft undertook such duties until the liberation of
France in 1944.

Lysanders flew from secret airfields at Newmarket and later Tempsford, but used regular RAF stations to fuel-up for the actual crossing, particularly RAF Tangmere.
Flying without any navigation equipment other than a map and compass, Lysanders would land on short strips of land, such as fields, marked out by four or five torches.
Or to avoid having to land, the agent, wearing a special padded suit, stepped off at very low altitude and rolled to a stop on the field.
They were originally designed to carry one passenger in the rear cockpit, but for SOE use the rear cockpit was modified to carry two passengers in extreme discomfort in
case of urgent necessity.
The pilots of No. 138 and from early 1942, No. 161 Squadron transported 101 agents to and recovered 128 agents from Nazi-occupied Europe.

The Germans knew little about the British aircraft and wished to study one.
Soldiers captured an intact Lysander in March 1942 when its pilot was unable to destroy it after a crash, but a train hit the truck carrying the Lysander, destroying the cargo.
Too bad for the Germans  ;D

Hello Pete,
I still enjoy flying this plane,  I know you've spent a lot of time on this project, but if you ever come back to it, would you please consider adding a smoke dispenser and supply cointeners to Ly's weaponry?
I urgently need this weaponry to support the Maquis in occupied France. :P ;D
Regards,
Piotrek

Hello Piotrek, at the moment health issues mean I spend very little time at the PC and the one project I am doing takes that time, sorry.

There are still numerous options including those you want, maybe I will have a look at what Dreamk has in his weapon packs once I finish what I am doing, no promises though, officially the project is done although I still need to add lods as well so who knows.

The java is in the pack if anyone wants to have a go, it would just mean finding the appropriate weapon and adding more options to the lists in the class, all the necessary hooks are in in the appropriate meshes on the winglets and fuselage, would be a good project for anyone new to java. ;)

I included a SOE version in the pack Max, and a civilian in the rear turret. :D

Wishing you all the very best, Pete. ;D

HI Mission_Bug,

Here’s a little fix to the Lysander for those who have reticles like the picture in barber’s reply#41.

The Reticle image has been updated and adjusted in size, position and color.
Adjusted Reticle mask position and depth to make functional.
Added dirtier glass.
The iron sight was not modified.

The Mod was tested in BAT 3.4 Linebacker, but may work in other Modpacks. (No promises!)
It is designed for Mission_Bug’s Lysander Mod only.

https://www.mediafire.com/file/x3f7s9wrqp8qvyh/Lysander_Series_Reticle_Rework.7z/file

Just drop into WAW3 folder.

I’d like to give a shout-out to WxTech for the detailed gun sight notes he provides
with his mods. These have provided all the know how I needed for this mod and
I thank him for sharing his knowledge with the community.

_Arms_British and _Arms_British_addenda are needed for the British bombs used. Dreamk also provided much valuable technical advice through this and other projects on clips and turret workings.
Could you please kindly provide the links to download these weapon packs? I've searched for hours (while at work) in the forum and couldn't find anything that remotely resembles it.

Hello milvipes, take a look at this link please:

And this, always good to have this collection:

It has been some time since I put this together but I think they should cover it, I will add these to the first page. ;)

Took me a matter of seconds to type '_Arms_British' to find the links. o_O

Thanks a bunch! ]thumright[
It flies flawlessly, now I'll be able to fly as FAC on the Western Front & PTO, while my wife will cover me in her flight of P-47.
Flying low and slow while drawing fire from enemy AAA is a thrill in its own right.
