One single thing that can make odd behavor show is installing into "C\\Program" or "C\\Program (x86) folders where windows decides what files or programs are legit or not! That is the most certain way to get into trouble! So make sure yuo are somewhere else with your game! Really anywhere outside of these two folders are all right! besides that a new set of files torrented should make your day.

If I do accidentally come across that number, what would I do with it?

Probably because it's just an ordnance selected in some quick mission file ; so it would be necessary to find the mission file (if you are using Quick Mission Builder) or at least press 'reset' before creating your QMB mission to get rid of this wrong weapon loadout.

I reinstalled BOAT and yes, the first part is very simple and I thank Monty and the Bat team for that. I backed up my game and will install the expansions one by one and test. My bet is that I have a bad download somewhere, though I did use the torrents for all the files.

I feel the pain of the topic starter... Happened to me when I tried to install CUP for the first time. I cursed and fumed and suspected there were gremlins in my PC - or in my head.
 
After all what was said earlier, my only advise: put it aside for a week or two and forget what was done/done not. Then start from a blank page: clean IL-2 installation in separate folder, BAT instructions, etc ...
Sometimes we need to take a break and let those things to "fix themselves"

Dimley... that is exactly what I have done...

I can't even get a clean, working smooth game install out of my  PC DVD-ROM  il2 Sturmovik 1946 any more.

I have a clean install of Win 7 and practically an empty computer hard drive too...Did a ...FULL WIPE... of the old win 7 system too...

I've used the  a.exe from the disc which has worked many times before for a working clean install......

Did you disable your anti virus and run the disc install exe file as administrator.

Preferably not installed to Program Files (86)

I'm not sure what's wrong with me but my install worked the first time. I downloaded everything download by download. I just took my time and read everything twice (or three times) I even have a modded version of B.A.T., along with my "stock" one. It's a little like doing your own taxes....(or differential calculus). You can't rush it.

yep and yep..and yep!  I use a folder on the  C drive 

I think I may be starting to have problem with my motherboard sound though...I am going to give things a little break and check
it out.  The sounds just kinda go out now and then...makes a big loud looping sound for the last few days also...

Just what I need but to replace the dang motherboard...

When you decide to give it another go PapaG39.

Try copying the complete contents of the disc to your HDD and then running the install from there.

If you haven't tried that already, buddy.
