Vickers FB5 Gunbus
« on: May 19, 2017, 09:40:04 PM »

Hello

Here is a model that would make a good addition to the DOF flightline - an early war Vickers Gunbus. The model itself didn't take too long to build, but the project has been on hold recently - my old PC is dying and I'm currently buying parts to build a new one - and there is still much to do. Here is the basic D0 model with a rough texture in a couple of test renders in 3ds Max. I hope you like it. :)

Nice looking model. Claimed to be world's first operational fighter aircraft? (wiki)  ---  Anyone disagree?

Thank you for your comments everyone :)

I've just built a new PC and after a few weeks,  I'm glad to say that I am back and up and running now I  have configured and reinstalled 3ds Max and my other tools. :)

So - back to the project and I am currently working on LODs for the the model.

But now I have a question: I have to cut the model into mesh objects for importation and I am familiar with the wing subdivision of wing_in; wing_mid; and wing_out for monoplane designs, but how does this work for biplanes?

If anyone can suggest how to divide this model to follow rules for IL2, I would be very grateful :)

the question is, who is going to export?

Good question! I would like to learn myself (I have been reading the tutorials here and have obtained Maraz exporter) but if anyone would like to help on this please let me know :)

For my Alb CX I used WingL(In, Out)_D0 as upper wing and WingR(In, Out)_D0 as the lower wing.  In is to the left, Out is to the
right.  Parenting is your choice. Hope this helps.

I like the Vickers.

Thank you for your advice, Mike. I will look into it. :)

So far, I have created a LOD & shadow model. Work is progressing steadily. Damage caps will be next :)

This will join the Be2c and Farman 4 as one of my favorites!
