BAT checkpoint: FPS 10 with He 112

Dear helpful people,

First of all, thank you! Thank you very much for keeping this sim alive and constantly (!) adding new Christmas presents!

The He 112 plane however has a funny behaviour regarding FPS:
Below 200m altitude both external view and cockpit view depress FPS to 10. When flying without cockpit view (strg + F1) the issue disappears. When looking at AI He 112 planes FPS go down to 10 again.

The issue started with BAT EP09 and unfortunately stays with checkpoint.
log.txt shows, as far as I understand, following hint:
  • INTERNAL ERROR: Can't open file 'PaintSchemes/Skins/He-112B-2/Standard'
  • INTERNAL ERROR: Bitmap 'PaintSchemes/Skins/He-112B-2/Standard' size: 0 != 512 | 1024
  • INTERNAL ERROR: Can't open file 'PaintSchemes/Pilots/Standard'
Plus it repats a thousand times:
WARNING: TRenderManager::TriangleList_ProjectiveShadow()- internal buffer overflow.
Too many vertexes or faces per shadow hier mesh!

I am afraid I cannot insert the logfile as "I am not allowed to post external links". No idea why entering code is the same as entering external link. The entering mask prohibits to use the (code)(/code) command.

So I downloaded the stand-alone mod and skins from [sorry-i-am-not-allowed-to-post-the-link] and [sorry-i-am-not-allowed-to-post-the-link] But: Thanks to 101tfs and vpmedia for sharing their work!!
However, that did not help. The skin-pack delivers in Full Misson Buider a pink plane. Which is funny as I installed BAT DLLS-02 due to repair the  pink hind helicopter.

By contrast, Me 262 HGV flies just fine. There are no FPS problems despite the same errors. Only the internal buffer overflow does not exist here:
  • INTERNAL ERROR: Can't open file 'PaintSchemes/Skins/Me-262HG-V/Standard'
  • INTERNAL ERROR: Bitmap 'PaintSchemes/Skins/Me-262HG-V/Standard' size: 0 != 512 | 1024

I must say, I have no idea. Looks like He 112 graphics are too bad for my card? If so, any help / question / advice is more than appreciated!

Since Mumble (a teamspeak software) has overlays (including an FPS counter) that work in Il-2 1946, I took a looksie into my BAT game to see if I had the same issue.

I flew two missions, one with just me starting on the ground, and one with me and a wingman airstarting. (For both missions I flew the He-112B-0)

On the scramble mission, I had an initial FPS of 19-30, however, once I had taken off and done a circle of the airfield, it returned to 58-60 FPS, and remained that way regardless of altitude or view.

For the airstart mission, an initial rate of 33-44 was recorded, but it almost immediately sprang to 58-60 again, regardless of view or whether or not I was looking at my AI wingman.

I didn't check my log to see my result, and since I had different results I'm not certain what the issue may be. It sounds interesting for sure though, and I hope a fix can be gained!

Thanks Ta183Huckebein for re-flying!

Looks like the He 112 drains ressources, although with different results. I just checked with the other He 112 versions and they behave exactly the same.

Will check other planes, maybe I got a corrupted installation?

Meanwhile, I change the entry
from HardwareShaders=0
into HardwareShaders=1
with no different results....

Shall I delete the directX part completely?

And thanks for pointing to the OpenGL setting, vpmedia! The search function gives thousands of entries here - I guess I will dig in for a while. Can I make the Intel(R) HD Graphics 620 to be OpenGL dedicated?

Ok, it looks to me as if the FPS problem arises out of the usage of directX drivers which comes from my hardware. Need to improve my driver setting and to find out why the game does not use the GeForce 940MX graphics card built in my Notebook.

So no BAT problem as far as I can see. Many thanks to all for your kind help!

I'd recommend to update your laptop's nvidia graphics drivers first.
The 940MX is a fairly capable graphics card, it should run IL-2 well.
The latest driver for your card is the "game ready" driver version 378.92 at the time of typing this.
If your manufacturer ships older drivers, use the generic Nvidia ones:

Once you did so, you should check the ability to assign a GPU to your IL-2 game.
The preferred way would be this:

But instead of changing the "Global Settings" I would recommend to switch to the "Program Settings" tab and specifically assign the Nvidia GPU to il2fb.exe. Take care not to pick the wrong exe there, sometimes "IL-2 Sturmovik" or "il2.exe" is listed, you need "IL-2 Sturmovik 1946" or "il2fb.exe".

If that doesn't work, check whether you there's an option "Run with Graphics Processor" when you right-click the il2fb.exe. If it's there, select it and then select your Nvidia graphic card.
If that solves it, you can create a shortcut to your il2fb.exe and right click on that one, then choose "Change default graphics processor..." and select your Nvidia card again. Launching that shortcut will make your game run with the Nvidia card permanently then.

If that doesn't work either, all that's left to do is to check the BIOS settings whether a primary graphics card can be selected there.

Updating the driver (381.65 as it just was updated today) and assigning the 940MX to the game did the trick.
