VP Modpack installing
« on: February 08, 2017, 11:19:57 AM »

HI ALL
I am a grandpa nearly seventy years old. English and PC programming are not too easy to me. I am old IL2, ClOD and now BOS/-K pilot and planning to use my old XP PC + 1946 4.07 DVD to teach some flying basics to my grandson. I want better sounds and other things so I have installed 4.07 and mega Patch together. Also I have now loaded and saved vp_modpack separately. I have loaded modpack three times because first two tryings were totally mess.
How this whole thing can be done with a one click as i have read somewhere?

YouTube video teaches nothing to normal person like me. It was totally mess also. Miniscreen, super speed-show with going forward-backward-forward quickly to find something from somewhere and some parts were made earlier for use in this show. PC-experts could handle this kind speed-show but not me.

So if there somebody who could teach the vp modpack installation step by step to his mother or grandpa in a way they can do it properly  is a person i am looking for.
Be ready to answer for more questions.
My best regards

After you installed the megapatch, did the game start ok and display v4.12.2 in the start screen?

Aerobatix,  have you downloaded all 16 files for VPMod Pack?  Did you place all 16 files into a folder that is NOT inside your Il-2 game folder? example:

c:\Il-2 Sturmovik game
c:\VP Modpack files

Is your Il-2 game version at 4.12.2 and NOT at 4.13 or above?

Do you have the program 7 zip?  if not, download from the internet.  It is free, search for 7-zip.

If the above is true - go inside your VP modpack folder, right click on the file "vp_modpack.7z.001" a menu will appear.  Select 7-zip.   A new menu will appear.  Select "Extract Files"  Next - a install window will appear.  It will ask you where you want to extract the files to.  Choose browse and select the folder where you Il-2 game is in. (using the example above, select "c:\Il-2 Sturmovik") Once the game folder location is displayed for where to extract files, click OK.  VP Modpack will begin installing itself into your game folder.

This will take some time but all 16 VP modpack files will extract themselves into your game.  Once completed, go to your game folder and double click on the file "IL2 Selector.exe"  and new menu screen will appear.  Click on the button "Change Settings" a new menu appears.  Click on the pull down arrow at the top right of the menu (next to a version of Il-2 appears in a white box."  When you click on the pull down menu button, the white box to its left expands to display many different versions of Il-2.  select "SAS MODACT"  When you see SAS MODACT in the white box, click on the "Save Settings" button on the lower left corner of the menu display.  After clicking to save, the menu display returns to the previous IL-2 Selector menu box. Click "play"  from this point, the game will launch.

I am going off memory, I am not sitting in front of my PC so if I am not correct with specifics, my apology.

Aerobatix,  you should have selector 3.1.4 that comes with SAS MODACT 5.3.

Do you still have a clean IL-2 game patched to 4.12.2?  If so, start with a clean game.  When I say "clean" it means there are no mods in it including not have SAS Modact.  I think you may have an older version of SAS Modact already in your game when you extracted VP modact into it.  Just a guess but you want to start with a clean Il-2 game. Now start the game to test it and you are looking at the loading screen. When loading, look at the lower left side of your screen and you should see: V 4.12.2m.  If you do not see this or you see a different number like V 4.13.2 then you do not have the base game for the VP Modpack.  It must be V 4.12.2m.

Once you have the clean game version 4.12.2m, then install the VP Modpack on top of it.  IL-2 selector should then be 3.1.4 and SAS MODACT is version 5.3

A bit of advice, keep a clean version of the game set aside so that you can copy it into new directories to be modified.  On my computer I have a clean Il-2 version 4.12.2m, a clean Il-2 version 4.13.2, a BAT modded Il-2 version 4.12.2m, a VP Modpack IL-2 version 4.12.2m, and a HSFX 7.3 Il-2 version 4.12.2m.  NOTICE all modpacts use Il-2 version 4.12.2m.

Not very helpful fact.
A
Not a very helpful comment if you are really seeking assistance.
Simple file extraction methods are a basic skill which you need to acquire.
Its not specific to IL-2 or mods.

If the help provided here is insufficient try Googling 7zip Tutorials https://www.google.com/search?q=7zip+tutorial&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-b

Good Afternoon Aerobatix

May I ask, how old is your grandson and how much knowledge does he have with computers / electronics.  Kids today are able to get things done with computers much faster than we can.  Your grandson may be able to review the thread, VP's instructions and say "okay, got it."  That happens with me and my kids, my grand kids are not old enough yet.  I will look at something for hours trying to understand it, my youngest will come in, look at it for a few minutes then say, "Oh - here's the problem."  Our eye sight are not what they used to be.

My VP MODACT install is about 51 GB in size and I think I added a few campaigns that increased it to this size but it would not be much.

Many members here are not young and all have an interest in helping others.  The challenge is we cannot see what you are seeing.  We can only go with what you can write and explain.  Since English is not your first language, we are attempting to see in our minds what we think you are seeing on your screen.  It is guessing.  But please do not get frustrated or upset with the responses, these guys help a lot of people.

I have decided to install a new Il-2 game to check on your questions since it has been a long time since I installed VP.

I starting with a Clean Il-2 game version 4.12.2M. The game size = 16 GBs (I have added and removed aircraft skins so your folder size will be a little bit different.)  To do this, I created a new folder on my game drive = E:\Il-2 1946 VPMOD.  I then went to my "Clean Il-2 ver. 4.12.2M" folder, opened it, selected all of the files and folders in it, right-click on the mouse and selected "Copy."  I then returned to my new folder, opened it, right-click on the mouse and selected "paste." After all of the files and folders were copied into my new game folder "E:\Il-2 1946 VPMOD"  I opened the folder and started the game.  This allowed me to ensure I have a working copy of the game.  No problem with the game.

Next I went to where I keep my VPMOD files which is "E:\Updates & Mods for games\VPMOD for Il-2 ver 4.12.2M"  I keep all patches, mods, updates for all my games under the folder "E:\Updates & Mods for games.  This helps me from mixing things up.

Opening my VPMOD folder, I have 16 files named: "vp_modpack.7z.001" "vp_modpack.7z.002" and so on until it reaches "vp_modpack.7z.016" Files 7z.001 - 7z.015 are 716,800 KB each in size. File 7z.016 is 2,493 KB in size. No other files are in there.

I right-clicked on "vp_modpack.7z.001" which brought up the menu as VP showed earlier in this thread.  I selected 7-zip from the selection which took me to a second menu.  On this menu I selected "Extract files" and this took me to the 7-zip extract menu. The top white box will show, by default, the location where your 7-zip files are located. To the right of this white box is a button that has 3 x dots on it.  This is the "Browse" button.  Click on Browse which takes you to a menu which is windows file manager and shows all of your computer drives.  Navigate to your Il-2 game folder (for me I navigated to "E:\Il-2 1946 VPMOD") I clicked on the new game folder and then clicked on the "OK" button at the bottom of this menu. Once you click OK, you are returned to the previous menu with the top white box now showing your game folder.  Do not worry about the rest of the boxes on this menu. Now I pressed "OK" at the bottom of the menu.  VPMOD begun to extract itself into my "E:\Il-2 1945 VPMOD" game folder.

Oh, I just saw something interesting.  By using this method, all of the VPMOD contents extracted into a folder named "vp_modpack" within my game folder.  Is this what is happening to you?  If so, take all of the files and folders within the "vp_modpack" folder and move them into your game folder.  Answer YES to overwrite existing files.

To answer your question - Yes VP has included MODACT 5.30 and the selector version is 3.1.1.

Start the game - the il-2 selector has already selected SAS Modact by default so you just need to click on "il2fb.exe".

Immediately the SAS Modact introduction screen appears in the center of your monitor then the opening screen for the game will appear. In the lower left corner of the game's opening screen it should read "Version 4.12.2M with SAS ModActivator 5.30 and SAS Flyable AI Aircraft v5.30"

VP modded game folder is now = 45.8 GB

You now have VP MODpack installed.  Enjoy.

Just check in the Quick Mission Builder whether you have planes like Bf-109B1 / B2 / C1.

If not, check whether you have an

[Your VPMOD game folder]\#SAS folder (should be about 28 GB)
[Your VPMOD game folder]\SFS_Auto folder (should be about 6.2 GB)

You seem to have the files, and if you can read "Version 4.12.2M with SAS ModActivator 5.30 and SAS Flyable AI Aircraft v5.30" on the startup screen, you have VPMOD installed in all probabilty.

Please check again the selectable aircrafts in the Quick Mission Builder.
Can you find any of these among them?

Can you see this screen with the same aircraft? (You can click on the image to enlarge it.)

If yes, you're fine. If not, your install has been messed up at some point and you should repeat the whole install process following Doug's instructions by the letter.

You see, there are people here who truly want to help you.

If you begin again, lets check the size of your clean game.  I am wondering if there are missing parts of your clean game.

my clean IL-2 ver 4.12.2 = 16.1 GBs total

my clean IL-2 ver 4.12.2 "Paintschemes\Skins folder" = 11.2 GBs with a total of 11,212 files.  The reason I have this information is for you to see because my folder that holds my aircraft skins have been modified.  So if your clean version of Il-2 is a different size, then determine the size of your skins folder and compare the difference.  There will be difference.

A little bit funny how the aircraft skins make up 3/4 of the size of the entire game.

If others can share their clean game sizes, it may clarify the difference between my game size and others.

We are getting there  :)

I get the same error message about Quick QMB Pro and the Quick Mission builder is missing.

Yet i started with a clean v4:12:2 and installed the VP Mod as per instructions.

My folders #SAS and SFS_Auto are the same size as AEROBATIX, 23.1 & 5.98

C'est la vie  ;D

Mike.
