Moving Infantry
« on: January 17, 2017, 09:57:54 AM »

Hi Monty and and Hanger19 team,
A request if possible, (not to sure if I should post this here ,feel free to move or delete)
This massive update contains enough aircraft, ships objects and updates etc., to keep IL2
going for years and years the most complete simulater EVER done.
The improvement over CUP is immense, including the massive speed increase that you can now use
for checking missions.(great time saver) or getting to a target quicker.
Anyway my one request :-Is it possible to maybe include a moving infantry object,
just one, be it Russian,German or Japanese, so long as it can be changed from red to blue army
This one addition would enable a lot of older campaigns and missions  to be updated
to run in BAT , saving some good old campaigns to be preserved for future users.
I was thinking a lot of SCW and WAW2 campaigns that have used infantry and it would be good
to update them as near as possible to the original campaign. ( you never get that close to see the whites
of there eyes so uniforms shouldn't matter, but it can and does add to a mission if included.)
I know new Campaigns and missions should be made and will be but some older ones where brilliant!
Just a thought:-- I do enjoyed seeing if I can improve the look and playability of a campaign.
If it is not possible to add infantry because of class file problems etc so be it.
Cheers edc1 (stan)
My spelling is useless to old for school now and they don't like zimmer frames in the school yard at playtime

ps, Should be uploading a campaign shortly for TGA (not a SCW campaign)with original  authors permission. .

This has been incorporated in HSFX for a few years now.
I have no idea how this might have been coded , but for the computerwise out there ,
it's likely possible to reverse engineer how Charlie Chap got it done.
It is not detailed or sophisticated animation , but in my experience it suffices just fine when
you're zooming by at 300 mph.

Rest assured if someone manages to extract this knowledge , I will be promptly requesting that ToMoose's excellent
command figures be added to the Infantry.ini - they are magnificent , and would be an outstanding
addition to the lexicon as moving figures.

Tomoose's excellent Command Personnel are already in B.A.T.  I think what edc1 is referring to is actual moving units like vehicles.  I'm sure its possible.

We do actually have figures that fight, CY6's infantry, mortars and prone infantry.  When attacked from the air they also run about in an effort to escape.  The 'running men' FMB Objects - SLD and SLD2 are also placeable around convoys and in hangars.

Up to now I have avoided the older infantry mods for that reason - older  Older + Classfiles usually means trouble!  We will take another look though, as the interest is there...

In my WWI campaigns I have been adding the C&C barrage effect over the trenches of the Somme map.  Not on every flight but a number of them.  Effects like barrage add a great deal of action for a relatively low performance and object price.  Another ground action set is the long supply convoy made of static vehicles and people with SLD objects.  Swoop over it and the running men dash about all over the place, it looks very atmospheric.

If you want a moving group of small objects for Infantry, under 'Vehicles' there are the German Bicycle Column and the German Motorcycle Rifle Company.  For the WW1 maps the Bicycle Column is the closest item for the missing Infantry columns but works well since there was Bicycle Infantry.
