The problem o narrow grass strips with bumping areas in the vicinity was solved earlier by Zuti's friction mod,

https://www.mediafire.com/file/ha6txof5a4364dn/00_Zuti_Friction_STD_410.7z

or

https://www.mediafire.com/file/p9v6psx4bsfvoqh/01_ZUTI_AirfieldsFrictionMod_STD_v0.4.7z

which hovewer, is not simply applicable to newer version of Il-2. The soulution I am using is  the application of Cannon's Blank Field Plates,

https://www.mediafire.com/file/jydq25m5rlqtn6l/BlankFieldPlate.7z

which suffice about 6 to cover the whole length of airfield. See also hier:

https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,43134.msg489478.html#msg489478

The comparison of the behaviour of both solution might be observed e.g. on Estonia map

https://www.mediafire.com/file/g8ltvo8x686kl3f/Estonia.7z

as compared with Estonia_BFP map version.

https://www.mediafire.com/file/o68c49c8whj6c1w/Estonia_BFP.7z

These Blank field plates are usaed also on Poland maps of the latest releases.

Hi Dogtail,
You can use the "snap" to grid function. I set it to 10 in general and insert the plates whith the snap on, starting with 0 degree angle (West-East runway orientation that is). They overlap just perfectly.
Once you have 4 done use "copy" then paste, bing you have now 8 and so forth.
On the actual size, if the map is 1:1 (mine is) I started using KDP ruler to check the sizes, also comparing them with GoogleEarth data. I found that relying on airfield plate sizes was not the most accurate option. This is hardcore nit picking though .... (or "rivet counter stuff" for plastic modellers)
PS: There is some wrong with the files posted for the KDP Ruler, I should attend to it...
PSS: for a 1200m long Soviet runway I needed 120 (10m long) KDP Rulers next to each other. It took me probably less than 2 minutes...keep faith!

Hi Zoran,

Thanks for the tips. I will try out the "snap to grid function". In the meantime, here is my first go at creating a new airfield. I did it the hard way by placing each plate manually.
It's Mons en Chaussee, west of St Quentin, France. I edited the WestFront summer 44 map to create the new airfield. Tested with a mission. Seems to work well.

Hey Alaska_Man, you mentioned the "flight test map". Any idea where I can get a copy of that map? I remember that from long ago. I d/l that map and liked it very much. Any help appreciated.

Hey Duffy! I'm in college right now and away from my computer, so I won't be able to give you a link.
