JPG's or TGA's that is the question....?
« on: July 14, 2016, 09:51:24 AM »

I have a full CUP install, but for some reson I have lost the ability to take TGA screenshots. For a while there I was getting both a JPEG & a TGA each time I took a screenshot- no longer. To tell the truth i don't know if this is a big deal or not. I thought that TGA's were of a better quality( more psi's?) but no one ever fully explined it to me.If the quality IS better how on earth do I get them back? Thanks! ;)

How about my "Screenshot TGA/JPG 4.12" mod released on February 12, 2014  ?

https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,39381.0.html

Stock game 4.12.2m has a new function - selectable screenshot saving format TGA or/and JPG - in your Setup-Misc section.
But SASModAct5.3 ignors its setting and saves screenshots in JPG only.
I revert its function to 4.12.2 stock one with a filenames rule by time stamps of "MyScreenshots" one.

JPEG is a lossy compression format.
Small pixel color data are lost in saving.

TGA used by IL-2 1946 is a non-compression format.
Saved TGA data is Dot-by-Dot equal to the screen you see.
