Black Gold of Borneo: Battle for the Dutch East Indies
« on: July 01, 2016, 06:09:40 PM »

A DCG campaign for IL-2 the Community Universal  Pack (C.U.P.). Campaign by Von Ofterdingen (comments/bug reports are welcome at vonofterdingen@gmail.com).

Campaign Information

Following the Japanese invasion of China, an American oil embargo on Japan has caused a desperate need for oil in the island nation with few natural resources. In order to continue its attempt to seize territory in the south pacific from colonial powers, Japan needs oil. The attack on Pearl Harbor, the invasion of the Philippines, and the threatening of Singapore paves the way for the invasion of the oil-rich Dutch East Indies in December 1941. The Dutch government in exile still has forces in the area, but they are under-equipped and outnumbered by the Japan task force approaching from Cam Rahn. American, British, and Australian forces are in the region but are scattered and fighting their own battle.

Though based on historical information, much of the gameplay is dynamic due to the nature of Lowengrin’s Dynamic Campaign Generator (DCG).

The following careers will be available:
Nation                               Career
Dutch                            P-36A Hawk
Imperial Japanese Navy    A6M2 Zero

Prerequisites & Compatibility

This campaign was written and tested using either the SAS Community Universal Pack mod pack. For information, see:

•   CUP: https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,45222.0.html

You must have installed Lowengrin’s Dynamic Campaign Generator for IL-2 version 3.47 or later. To obtain DCG see the Lowengrin website: http://www.lowengrin.com

Installation and Settings
•  Decompress the DutchEastIndies.zip file and put the uncompressed DutchEastIndies folder into your DCG home directory.
• Copy the Paintschemes folder from the DutchEastIndies folder to your main game directory’s Paintschemes folder.
•  Make a backup of the DGEN directory in you IL-2 game directory.
•  Copy the DGEN folder from the DutchEastIndies\DGEN directory and paste it to the main game folder. If prompted to overwrite files, click Yes.
•  Start the DCG program. Select File?Optional Third Party Data Folder.
•  Navigate to the DutchEastIndies folder and select allcampaigns.dcg.
•  In the DCG main screen, select Mode ? Off Line Career (Full Auto-Generation Mode).
•  Close DCG.
•  Start your IL-2 game. Choose one of the Nation/Career options listed above under Campaign Information and slick Start.
•  For best results, choose the squadron that is in the same ordinal position as the aircraft you select. For example, if you choose the second aircraft type in a list of three, choose the second squadron in the list as well. This will ensure that you receive the correct aircraft upgrades as they become available.

Compatibilities
This is a large and dynamic campaign;. I have done testing, but testing a campaign of this scope is near-impossible. If you encounter difficulties, please notify me; solutions are usually available once I know the nature of the problem. Exploding planes on startup are the most common issue; if you encounter this please let me know (this is a problem that can be fixed with relative ease). I have created new Payload assignment files for this campaign, but as noted above it is hard to test all possible combinations.

Credits
Thanks to the SAS team for bringing us C.U.P. and Paul Lowengrin for the excellent DCG campaign generator.

Thanks to Farang65 for the beautiful Borneo Pre-war-42 map that I used for this campaign. It comes with your CUP installation.

This campaign would not be possible without Bee’s wonderful DutchEastIndies map. I also used the following custom skins. Aircrat/Skin:
•   Zeros: VPmedia
•   Vals and Oscars: Harpia-Mafra
•   Betty Bombers: Buglord

I am personally much indebted to Lonestar for his wonderful tutorials on the use and scripting of DCG campaigns.

Just out of interest which map/s did you use for the campaign ;D

Your campaign looks really good.  :D ;) :)

I have put out some Dutch East Indies maps

Northern Borneo Pre War to 42 and 43-45

https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,21131.0.html

and Dutch New Guinea for Operation Wreckless also in the Pacific maps section.

Looking forward to flying your campaign soon  ;)

Cheers

I am using your North Borneo map (pre-war to 42) and I forgot to mention you in the credits! For this I apologize and will make an immediate correction. No one appreciates the map maker so much as the mission maker.

The campaign uses only this map. I had originally planned to go from Borneo to Palembang to South East Indies (the map errantly labeled "South India") and Batavia. However, the battle of Palembang was very short, and both the South East Indies and Batavia maps are unpopulated (not even airfields) so I decided to do Borneo only.
