early Malta Spitfire Mk.VC/Trop v.1.0 RC
« on: April 19, 2016, 05:56:08 PM »

OK, say Hello to the Malta Spitfire Mk.V/C as she appeared in
the Operation Bowery and Calendar deliveries in Spring 1942 on some airframes, BR136 & BR226.
This is obviously production Batch BR106 - BR137 & BP950 - BP993 built at Supermarine.
The previous Batch came with partial fitting too, here BP973 is a vital example, depicted twice, at delivery and after field modification.
I could make out 4-5 other kites at their pre and post fitting stages.
Their Armament consisting of 4x Hispano Cannons along with 4x .303 MGs installed. These installations soon
proved to be unreliable, due to shortages on the besieged Island as well as possible performance issues from such heavy Knocker.
More common improvements saw the removal of the two inner cannons and 2 outer Mgs.
So this is for the early stages, until Riggers get their Hands on it and
Malta runs short on supplies.

Tobias, I'm running 4.11 version and this little jewel didn't crash me to desk top after I loaded her. Appears to run fine. Thanks a bunch. ;D

I never heard of a Spitfire actually carrying 4x 20mm + 4x .303s. As far as i know, the so-called 'Universal' C-wing had provisions to mount either 8x .303 (like the A-wing, in practice never used), 2x 20mm + 4x .303 (like the B-wing, and the most often used armament setup on C-winged Spitfires) or 4x 20mm (a new loadout specific to C-wing, but with most being quickly converted in the field to B-wing type armament due to number of reasons).

For what i understand, the Malta field mod consisted of removing 2 cannons from a 4x 20mm C-winged Spitfire leaving them only with 2x 20mm, with no .303s, similar to the modifications done on their Hurricane Mk.IICs (also originally 4x 20mm, but soon reduced to just 2x 20mm with bombracks also deleted).

Having said that, the fact that i never heard of such a loadout being used on Spitfires does not mean it never existed. The different field modifications with regards to armament and other equipment used on WWII warplanes are something of a fascination to me, so if you have a good source which would confirm the 4x 20mm + 4x .303 loadout it would be much appreciated here! :)

Anything I should know about this mod? Not compatible with BAT perhaps?

No LOG... no help !

But... after testing we find in the LOG :
[2021-12-26 19:41:23.207 UTC +1]   dT:    0   Spawn.get( com.maddox.il2.objects.air.SpitfireMkVc4xMalta ): com.maddox.il2.objects.air.CockpitSpit5_C12
[2021-12-26 19:41:23.208 UTC +1]   dT:    0   java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: com.maddox.il2.objects.air.CockpitSpit5_C12
[2021-12-26 19:41:23.209 UTC +1]   dT:    0      at com.maddox.il2.objects.air.SpitfireMkVc4xMalta.class$(SpitfireMkVc4xMalta.java:24)

So to put it simply: this Mod in its current form is not compatible with BAT!
