"Mud Movers" upgraded to 4.12
« on: February 27, 2016, 03:19:38 AM »

My Korean War Thunderjet Campaign "Mud Movers" has been upgraded to 4.12 using HSFX 7. I hope that it can run in CUP as well!  8)

 - so if someone wants to test it in CUP here is the D/L link: http://www.mission4today.com/index.php?name=Downloads3&file=details&id=731

Keeping my fingers crossed that it will!  :)

CUP is missing most of the vehicle/infantry columns. Also doesn't have the P-51D30NA or the AT6 in JTW. Also missing is the crater object (renamed in CUP and can't be found with the HSFX missions), and some static aircraft.

Strange about the columns: the campaign is lifted directly from DBW to HSFX without a hitch.

Unfortunately with Jet era campaigns, some of the missing objects will be in the #WAW module and not the #JTW module eg: the P51D-30NA. I have not looked into this campaign, but it may well be the case with some of the missing columns etc.

Why did you use the D-30 instead of the F-51?

Shouldn't it best suited for Korea?

My bad, but the problem isn't the Mustang, which is pure eye-candy, not in any way crucial to gameplay, but the ground columns, that indeed are. I thought they were standard, as they are to be found in both DBW and HSFX.

Poltava - Ah! This sort of compatibility problem may explain why I haven't been able to fly any of your mod campaigns in CUP. It reminds me of why I can't fly your Dewoitine 510 over China campaign; the D.510 is available in TGA, but not (yet) in WAW; likewise, the Ki-10 is available in WAW, but not (yet) in TGA. I trust that the gentlemen at Hangar 19 are monitoring these discussions. One hopes that, as time goes along, the CUP modules will grow to encompass such cross-overs.

Meanwhile, I'm still playing and enjoying your unmodded campaigns, in the stock 4.12.2 forming the basis of my CUP installation, and the stock 4.13 installation I've stored and use separately.

Yeah, unfortunately lots of the columns are eliminated in CUP for some reason, both in WAW and JTW. Which is a shame, as your campaigns are fantastic and it's not a trivial matter to get them to work again. I don't know why they were eliminated, there's even a post about it here:

Another big missing item is the crater object, which are renamed in CUP with different bomb sizes and summer/winter variants, but no default left in to accommodate the original object. CUP is excellent in many ways, but in some areas backwards compatibility is a pain.

You know that there is no problem having multiple installs of IL-2 nowadays. You can have it all: CUP, HSFX, DBW 1.71 etc. And that way you can play all the campaigns you want. :)

Oh pleeeeease NOT eliminated for some reason - CUP is 412 - We moved as many mods as humanly possible up from 410 to 412 but it wasn't possible to convert everything.  Those columns are a 410 mod, not a 412 mod and not a default feature either.  I was unable to get all of the raw materials required to re-compress them for 412 and move the whole feature up into CUP.

Just because it was in DBW is no guarantee it should be in CUP or even can be.  Everything was moved, by hand, and remade for the 412 level sim.

Please don't assume that me and the CUP Team have disposed of mods or ruled stuff out on a whim.  We tried very hard to get everything.  We are still trying.

But people must also try to understand - CUP is modded 412.2.m, not 410, and some old mods, good as they were, are just not around in the 412 format.

*****************************

CUP provides all of the tools you need. - Bear in mind also that Poltava is one of the nicest, most reasonable and balanced men on Earth.  He has already stated, and the same goes for any of my earlier material too, that you can get in there and sort it out with your CUP tools.

There are many analogues for the columns used, use the replacements.  Upgrade the scenery objects.  It really is a simple task to upgrade these missions which are are already so well written and presented that 99% of the work has already been done for you.

Hi all and Monty,
Could not agree more with monty's post.
Having updated a few older programs into TGA you can substitute any missing items
with other items and aircraft if need be, just use your immagination.
The object of my updating campaigns is to see if it still plays as good or better then the older campaign.
It will be different that's for sure
I hope the few I have updated in TGA gave as much pleasure to play as the originals.
I will be uploading another updated campaign having got permission from the original ( Craken ) campaign
Vado in Abissinia, (again in TGA.)
Should have uploaded this 2 months ago but I clicked a yes in a pop up that
stated SPOTIFY needs to connect to the internet.-------- lost my keyboard,  mouse everthing !
had to reinstall the operating system and star again.
BE carefull what you click!!

Cheers edc1 (stan)
