C.U.P.- Module 03 - World at War Pt-15
« on: December 23, 2015, 09:15:27 PM »

*************************************************************

CUP Module 03 World at War Part-15:

REQUIRES C.U.P. UP TO DATE AS FAR AS PART-14

THE LATEST FULLY FUNCTIONAL ALL FIXED UP TO DATE CLEAN WORLD AT WAR

A year on, and fifteen large addon sets later, the content of World at War far exceeds anything attempted before it (TFM etc).  This edition enjoys a thorough cleaning, becoming completely free of classfile conflicts or duplicates, while the the 'stock #WAW' mod folder has shrunk to just 107MB!

Through the facility of the SAS CUP Forum; all requests and support issues have been reviewed.  We see a high level of user interaction, a great deal of interest in the old sim and a lot of places still to go...

Over the 5 CUP modules in 2015, on average, a new Upgrade or Addon Set has been made available every 10 days!

In addition to the amazing World at War, we built Dawn of Flight to the highest level ever and are starting to see many more new mods launched in 412.  We have integrated many new high quality maps and also expanded the Jet Age, especially support vehicles and ships.  In addition we introduced a new era; The Golden Age, which will, with plenty of support, surely mature in the year to come.

*************************************************************
The result is truly the Community Universal Patch - C.U.P. So named because it drops neatly over a clean install of Il2-412 to transform the simulator.
*************************************************************

Structure of CUP development:
1)SAS1946 Admin Team - Maintain and develop code, tools, website and all editorial decisions plus testing.
2)Hangar-19 - Small group who assemble and pre-test CUP packages.
3)CUP Forum - User feedback, suggestions and tweaks.
4)CUP Campaigns - Unique state of the art mission centre.

What goes into CUP actually comes from the players - to the dev team to trial ideas and see what is possible - and to the SAS Team to fix anything else, test, finalise and presentation.  So often with modding its the other way around.  SAS is a true democracy!

RACING PLANES:
Gerd's F8F Bearcat
https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,10588.msg113624.html#msg113624

We have decided to include some of the rarer racing planes with this update.  The QMBPRO Scenario "CUP-Reno Air Races" (Red Side Only) provides an instant Reno test through QMBPRO.  This QMBPRO mission is being updated further, but remeber that you can also enter the editing suite from QMBPRO to FMB and modify the scenario yourself!  I will upload a new one later and anyone else who tweaks it do please share your results.

Gerd's beautiful Bearcats, in all their guises, make the flightline as both latewar fighters and modern racers.  These line up alongside the Goodyear F2G Super Corsair; also by Gerd.  A good selection of skins has also been included.

P-51R  From Barnesy & CWatson
We would also like to honour another great racing model by including it in the CUP flightline.  The CRP Mustang Racer sits very nicely beside the other racers in CUP.  Several new skins have been converted to fit this beautiful aircraft and they have been included.

Full credits included with P51R-Readme.TXT

CATAPULT LAUNCHES
We now have all of Plowshare's USN Carriers and Light Carriers alongside Ship-Pack-3 and many other new ships.  Steam Catapults are flexible and configurable for every assigned aircraft carrier.  We can also launch from the I400 Submarine and even do that from QMBPRO!

Currently; Catapult launches from Cruisers and Battleships, such as USS Iowa, are not possible because of a conflict with Classfile BC2508487F558066.  This is on the list to be re-designed but right now it breaks too many other things so it has to stay out of there.

In the near future we shall have the capacity to launch from the Iowa Class and other types of large cruiser.

Everything else that needs a Steam Catapult, the late era US Light Carriers, the big CVs, the Ark Royal, Graf Zeppelin etc, have been fitted and tested.

...two little SFS files, magic...

A BETTER SOUNDSET FOR CUP:
Tiger33's sounds have been separated from the SASEngineMOD 2.7 in CUP.  This enables us to employ a better standard model.  Sitting above the built in soundset we now have a package based on a set originally developed and tuned by CWMV.  This set comprised:

-Jaffa;
 DB600's
   https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,12975.0.html

 Allison and Merlin
   https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,12336.0.html

 Napier Sabre (Tempest MkV)
   https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,7995.0.html

 303 , 20mm , 50.Cal Sounds (Hispano 20mm, Browning .303, Ma Deuce)
   https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,8351.0.html

-Fly!;
 Pratt & Whitney R-2800
 PrattWhitney R-1830
 Wright Cyclone 1820

-Catahoulak9;
20s, 30s, 50s Gun Sounds (MGFF, Impact sounds, Some .50 cal sounds)
   https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,1133.0.html

-Verhängnis;
 [Mod] Luft Jet Sounds V1
   https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,9565.0.html

-AIRdomination
All Weapons Sound Mod (Heavily cannibalised for my own sounds)
   https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,5260.0.html

-II/JG53_Valentine
 New thunderstorm and ambiance sounds

***************************************

AN OPEN SOUND STUDIO:
CWMV's compilation of these sounds is superb and has helped us to disengage Tiger33's Sounds and extend the overall coverage of the CUP soundset.  As a result the new CUP soundset is more comprehensive, covering the I-16 series and others more effectively, and has a better overall sound.  It is fully compatible with 412, has less impact on the sim and enables Tiger33's unique flyby sounds to remain intact.

We are now able to standardise the SASEngineMOD used by CUP and apply these sounds to other modules.  All will notice a vast improvement, with the added flexibility that you may now try other soundsets in the mod folder without messing with the core setup.

The new #WAW/Classes-Sound folder will allow any amount of 'tweaking', loading above the SFS files that comprise CUP.  Sound compilations loaded above this folder in #WAW will take priority.

#CUP_DISABLE CUPSOUNDS
CUPSOUNDS.SFS is an excellent package for most aircraft, more than 90%.  But supposing you get a mod not configured for these sounds, or something that that you just don't like the sound of?  You can revert to the default sound package, retaining Tiger33's flybys, by activating this option.

In this way we can cater for the maximum variety and content with the slimmest possible mod setup.

This Will be trialed as a JSGME Package

***************************************

ISSUES TESTING AND SOLVED:
All AI_No_Open_Canopy Fixes
Obselete old code - Do not use

F6F Hellcats automatic flaps FM by Wagslead and CWatson
Breaks Carrier Parking - Do not use

A few extra I-16's had a cockpit POV problem
These were left out until fixed

Arty Spotters by CY6
Breaks the Stinson in 412, which ruins the mod.
The earlier Arty Spotter 'Gunship' Workaround is still good and remains part of 'World at War'.

Catapults
Fitted to all appropriate carriers and the I-400 Submarine.
At present the Iowa class and several other battleships are awaiting new 412 classfile edits in order to add the catapult facility to them.

Canopy Animation

Avia-135 and He-280 canopy animation needs fixing.  Solution; don't open/close the canopy!

#WAW_Config-B-24D-140-CO
The new TD413 Liberator ball turret code breaks all the other Liberators!  JSGME activate this to fly the B-24D-140-CO but you will loose function on all other Liberators.

SAFETY ADVICE:
#WAW is solid and working.  If adding mods to it; consider doing so using separate folders inside #WAW and avoid adding anything to the existing folders.

Fortunately, when it all goes FUBAR, CUP Module 03 World at War Part-15 Restore Point Install is your full backup for the critical mod folder (#WAW).

***************************************

SUPPORT:
CUP is huge and fairly complex.  User reports and suggestions have helped a great deal to improve it.  However; incomplete data is useless data - Simply posting 'any ideas?' with no Logfile really is Crystal Ball gazing.  CUP was NOT built upon guess-work.  We want to help all we can but please read the instructions and post enquiries clearly and with relevant data.

At this stage your default position should be the realisation that: CUP works!

***************************************

USE YOUR NOGGIN!
Mod further at your own risk:  We encourage experimentation and have created the perfect 'Clean' platform on which to play.  However:  Even adding one tiny classfile to a folder may have an unforseen effect elsewhere.

Classfile Conflicts can be very subtle and not easily apparent until testing a specific funtion.  We use a thorough cross-checking system that can identify one rogue classfile out of thousands.  If you add another and it breaks something are you sure you know what and where it is?

Please use your Logfile - If you don't know how, don't try modding yourself.

If you screw it up yourself, return to your previous backup #WAW folder.

We have a blast Forager.  Glad you are on board mate!

99% of modders help us directly and, of course, they are the ones who make the mods that keep the sim alive.

Through the C.U.P. project we really do solve many complex issues of integration.  An install this size has taken many people with different skills well over two years to construct.  C.U.P. itself is a year old but was based on DBW and TFM before it...

Anyone trying to add these mods themselves to a vanilla install is looking at a similar time commitment and is doomed to run into the same problems that we have solved and fixed over recent years.  Without help and support who could honestly do it?  This is why I would like people to understand that C.U.P. is NOT simply a "reposting of mods".

Anyone who does suggest such a thing has completely misunderstood this effort.  Fortunately; the many users of C.U.P. are not that willfully stupid.

I don't want any credit or thanks myself, just the freedom to share amongst friends.  SAS was founded on that principle and its wonderful to be here.

Merry Christmas all!  ;D

Peter Lynn

Ships, especially so many made by different modders, can be fairly complicated items to install and test.  These were also a mixture of updated models, and new classfiles, with mods made in 412.  A special thank you to SAS~Benitomuso and SAS~Asheshouse for their assistance with these and some good ideas for the near future.

Do please visit the linked threads and say hi and thank you to the ship-builders.

Summary:
WAW Part-15A B C - UnZIP/UnRAR into Main Il2 Directory:
Get rid of old #WAW folder and use the new one provided in Part-15C

WAW Part-16A B C - UnZIP/UnRAR into Main Il2 Directory:
Drop on top of the rest, just overwrite and go

WAW Christmas Goodie Bag - UnZIP/UnRAR into Main Il2 Directory:
Drop on top of the rest, just overwrite and go

eMeL was the first to do this process, uploaded from Adelaide to Helsinki, with no coaching at all.  It took around 45 minutes to download and less than 2 to install.  Don't rush though, take your time and do it right.

It worked flawlessly to match our CUP installs.  We then spent the next three hours on Skype going 'Wow' and similar...  ;D

Cranes and Tower fix by WxTech Hubberranz

Why these fixes were included here? Don't they belong to one of the Modular Map Expansion Packs? These fixes are only availble now in WAW and not in the other eras... just wondering
