Hell's Angels campaign for C.U.P?
« on: November 20, 2015, 06:42:23 AM »

Hi.
A few years ago I was able to find a campaign on the B-17 called Hell's Angels. The campaign was available on BigWing's website. I recently came back to IL-2 and saw the emergence of new mods such as C.U.P. Hell's angels campaign does not seem to be playable under CUP. Would anybody be able to tell me how I could try to adapt it myself? I might also be able to enhance part of it. Thanks for your help
Best Regards

I hope this doesn't seem like hijacking this thread but I've been looking for a copy of the Hell's Angels campaign for a while.  Any links I've found are dead-ends.
Could I ask that this campaign be re-posted if possible for downloading?

I converted the Big Bird 25-mission campaign for our little online coop group and it went pretty smoothly.  If I could get the Hell's Angels campaigns I could try to convert that too (although we are using HSFX).

thanks in advance.

For what it's worth;
I've had a quick look at the Hell's Angels campaign and IMHO I would strongly recommend the Big Bird campaign.  It uses the Western Front map which adds more immersion (i.e. you are actually flying from England instead of the little island on the Normandy map).  The campaign comes with a photo of each target (.jpg format).  There is a large formation of B-17s for every mission (32 on average and considerably more for a couple of the missions).  Targets vary from France to Belgium to Holland to Germany and can be over 2 hours in flight time (if you don't use time acceleration).

Don't get me wrong, the Hell's Angels campaign is a damn good one but was obviously created in the early days prior to a good portion of the mods and maps that are available now.

Some CONS of the Big Bird campaign;
a.  some objects are unnecessary (e.g. 'german' flak guns at allied bases, too many beacons, recon 'targets' at allied bases which aren't used, airfield fires instead of lights)
b.  escort fighters joining up at the right time and place was hit and miss (pun intended)
c.  altitudes used for bombing make it tricky to see the target (i.e. the terrain graphic doesn't appear 'clearly' until you are almost on top of the target).

I made some changes for our little online coop group for the Big Bird campaign.  I can post here if anyone's interested (and assuming I'm not breaking any rules with regard to the original author and ownership etc);
a.  I lowered the overall altitudes for all bombers to 14,000ft to allow for better graphic resolution of the target from a greater distance.
b.  I removed any unnecessary objects (i.e. no attacks on allied airfields ergo no requirement for AA there except for eye candy).  Same for allied searchlight objects.
c.  Changed airfield bonfires to airfield runway lights.
d.  Marked Boxted runways with proper runway numbers
e.  Added some airfield buildings and moving vehicles
f.   Added substantial flak for some of the missions
g.  Adjusted escort fighters flight plans to make rendezvous more probable (still iffy)
h.  Added more defensive fighters on some of the missions
i.  Added the Trigger object in some missions (if you drop below 100m over the Channel a flying boat or warship will spawn and make it's way to your ditching location)  eye candy only unfortunately.

We have completed all 25 missions online coop using HSFX.  An excellent campaign although for online play I'd recommend it only for the hardcore onliners as the average mission (takeoff to landing) was at least an hour and a half with a couple of them over 2 hours (into Germany).

Hello,
the campaign works with CUP, at least the first missions under the following conditions:
the map fly_zo_BOB/fly_z_normA has to be installed
a campaign.ini folder has to be written and installed.
Problem is that on this map the English Channel is very narrow, not very realistic.
Plus the remarks of Tomoose.
It should not be a problem for a pro to adapt the campaign for CUP.
Best regards.

Hi Tomoose - any chance you could post your tweaked version of Big Birds? I've really enjoyed playing the HSFX version and would like to try it in CUP with your changes.

Porschefan (and anyone else that wants it).
Here it is:
https://www.mediafire.com/download/b9lve3c2vcujdfc/B-17_Coop_Campaign.rar
This is JackStones original Big Bird campaign with some "tweaks" I added.  All credit for the hard work goes to JackStones for an outstanding bomber campaign.
I have detailed my additions/tweaks in the readme file included in the download but here's a brief summary;

1.  The campaign was adapted for online coop play (i.e. 4 humans flying a flight of B-17s the rest were AI).  We flew all 25 missions and thoroughly enjoyed them (again, kudos to JackStones).
2.  His recon photos are included as well as skins for the 384th BG
3.  Some enemy fighter and flak tweaks
4.  I added some TRIGGER objects which, if the situation applies, will spawn Air Sea Rescue aircraft and/or Royal Navy ships to specific grids.

Again, very special thanks to JackStones for his original work and I hope players find this tweaked version as enjoyable.

Merry Christmas

I have not, as yet, installed and tried this as a Single Player campaign so my experience (and enjoyment) has been as a coop online campaign.
