What do the columns in the air.ini mean?
« on: April 02, 2010, 05:15:54 AM »

What do the various columns in the air.ini file mean? More importantly, what can you change or omit without crashing IL2?

For example:

Fw-190A-8Mistel   air.FW_190A8MSTL   2   NOQUICK   NOINFO   g01   SUMMER

Obviously, the first entry is the name of the airplane, but what do the other columns mean?

Here's what I know so far:

Column 2:  Always prefixed with the term "air." Buttons file entry?

Column 3: Always a number between 1 and 2. Axis or Allied?

Column 4: Empty or "NOQUICK". Means the plane doesn't appear in the quick mission builder.

Column 5: Empty or "NOINFO". It seems to be optional, since different installations of different mods can omit it.

Column 6: Always a country code followed by 01, e.g., g01, gb01, r01, pl01. Default markings? Default skin?

Column: Always "SUMMER", "WINTER" or "DESERT" Default skin? Optimal environment?

you've pretty much got it right on each count, Pursuivant.  ;)
As for changing it - no, don't change anything in this entry. I think you can change the NOQUICK, possibly the NOINFO, but that's it.
best just not to mess with the air.ini entries at all.... 8)

Columb 2 is the name of the classfile it uses.
Columb 1 can be any name, but it is the name the game will use as reference to find the skinfolder, the plane_ru name and the weapons_ru entry
