Battle of Hankow - a DCG campaign for C.U.P.
« on: April 28, 2015, 06:34:17 PM »

Introduction
This campaign is based on events in the Japanese invasion of China following the fall of Nanking. Following the loss of Nanking, the Chinese massed some 800,000 troops to defend Hankow, which had become the new military and political headquarters of China. The Japanese launched their campaign in early June 1938, supported by river gunboats and destroyers on the Yangtze. By the end of July, the Japanese were approaching Wuhan from the north.

Though based on historical data, much of the gameplay is dynamic due to the nature of Lowengrin’s Dynamic Campaign Generator (DCG).

Download: http://www.mission4today.com/index.php?name=Downloads3&file=details&id=2132

The following careers will be available:

   Nation                                            Career
US Volunteer                                  P-36A Fighter Pilot
USSR Volunteer                              I-16 Fighter Pilot
Imperial Japanese Army                  KI-27 Fighter Pilot, A5M4 Fighter Pilot

Prerequisites & Compatibility

This campaign was written and tested using the SAS Community Universal Pack mod pack. For information, see:

https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,45222.0.html

You must have installed Lowengrin’s Dynamic Campaign Generator for IL-2 version 3.47 or later. To obtain DCG see the Lowengrin website:

http://www.lowengrin.com

Installation and Settings
•  Decompress the Hankow.zip file and put the uncompressed Hankow folder into your DCG home directory.
•  Make a backup of the DGEN directory in you IL-2 game directory.
•  Copy the DGEN folder from the Hankow \DGEN directory and paste it to the main game folder. If prompted to overwrite files, click Yes.
•  Start the DCG program. Select File?Optional Third Party Data Folder.
•  Navigate to the Hankow folder and select allcampaigns.dcg.
•  In the DCG main screen, select Mode ? Off Line Career (Full Auto-Generation Mode).
•  Close DCG.
•  Start your IL-2 game. Choose one of the Nation/Career options listed above under Campaign Information and slick Start.
•  For best results, choose the squadron that is in the same ordinal position as the aircraft you select. For example, if you choose the second aircraft type in a list of three, choose the second squadron in the list as well. This will ensure that you receive the correct aircraft upgrades as they become available.

Compatibilities
This is a large and dynamic campaign;. I have done testing, but testing a campaign of this scope is near-impossible. If you encounter difficulties, please notify me; solutions are usually available once I know the nature of the problem. Exploding planes on startup are the most common issue; if you encounter this please let me know (this is a problem that can be fixed with relative ease). I have created new Payload assignment files for this campaign, but as noted above it is hard to test all possible combinations.

Credits
Thanks to the SAS team for bringing us C.U.P., and Paul Lowengrin for the excellent DCG campaign generator.
This campaign would not be possible without Agracier’s wonder Hankow map, and the custom skins I needed for a China campaign. The P-36 skin is by IMME; the A5M4, I-15, I-16, and SB 2M skins are by Archie.

I am personally much indebted to Scharnhorst and Lonestar for their wonderful tutorials on the use and scripting of DCG campaigns.

Thank you Lonestar. Your tutorial got me started in doing these campaigns.

I have more DCG CUP campaigns on the way:

Kokoda Track - uses the Kokoda trail map and has campaigns for Australia and Japan
Battle of Moscow - CUP conversion of my existing Minsk to Moscow campaign.
War Over Italy - CUP conversion of my existing campaign of the same name.

WoW brilliant and many thank.

I wondered if someone would make DCG campaigns for CUP (atleasted i hoped for it).

Is it possible to use your campaigns online (NGEN)?

I would like to make an online DCG campaign of Battle of Brittain but i lack the knowledge how to make them for CUP.
Do you have any good guides to learn this regarding DCG and CUP?

Keep up the good work. I will try all your campaigns that you throw in here  ;D

i love flying everything Japanese and especially love the elegance of the early models (even tough their weapons are so weak) so this looks really interesting.

Never used DCG before but this campaign looks so good i will make sure to try it out soon. :)

EaglePryde,

I have never played or built an online campaign of any kind, but if you and your group are interested in it I would be glad to investigate it with you.

Thanks all. I am very encouraged that this campaign is well received.

@eaglepryde...regrading BOB and learning DCG. The answer to both is Lonestar. His Battle of Britain  DCG campaign was written for DBW but may work with CUP (I have not tried it yet). If you want to learn to make your own DCG campaigns check out Lonestar's tuturial. That is how I got started.

finally had time and motivation to dig into DCG. got it installed and running with your Hankow campaign. i encountered some problems with the angking (spelling?) airfield, but i think thats related to the map itself and not your campaign.
when i had to start with the ki-27 it was almost impossible for the AI to get in the air, bumpy uneven ground, they took off in the wrong direction and rammed into buildings and such.

i installed a patch i found for the hankow map by agracier to flatten the airfields, that might have fixed most of those problems.

another thing that confused me is that the minimap path for my missions doesn't seem to reflect the flight path my flight leader takes.

example screenshot where i kept on autopilot, following my flight leader and the squadrons automatically:

maybe i made a mistake in the DCG setup, first time using it. hehe.

EDIT: i tried the mission again, seems like the bombers and my escort squadron just take a big slow turn some Km far behind the target and then return and attack the marked targets on the attack waypoint on the way back.

a little bumpy start for me, but i am liking the possibilities and its a great way to explore this map, that i never used before.
