New static .ini organization: what is your desire?
« on: March 15, 2015, 04:40:30 PM »

Hi mates!

I'm not satisfied from the actual static.ini organization of the objects!

So I plan (on the long time of this year) to rewrote the whole entries!

I'm open at your suggestion about organization and subdivision of objects in categories!

Let me know your desire!

I will think about it, during the populating of cities, villages etc I noticed some things.
First thing that crossed my mind and should be moved into another section is the chapel on the right in screenshot below.
It is a default Slovakia object and should not be grouped together with the sentryboxes. Similar shape but...

Its entries in static.ini are:

[buildings.House$sentrybox_002]
Title           ToW_sentrybox_002
MeshLive        3do/Buildings/ToW/sentrybox_002/mono.sim
MeshDead        3do/Buildings/ToW/sentrybox_002/mono_dead.sim
AlignToLand     0
Body            RockMiddle
Panzer          0.1

[buildings.House$sentrybox]
Title           ToW_sentrybox
MeshLive        3do/Buildings/ToW/sentrybox/mono.sim
MeshDead        3do/Buildings/ToW/sentrybox/mono_dead.sim
AlignToLand     0
Body            RockMiddle
Panzer          0.1

[buildings.House$Chapel]
Title           Chapel
MeshLive        3do/Buildings/Slovakia/Chapel/live.sim
MeshDead        3do/Buildings/Slovakia/Chapel/dead.sim
AlignToLand     0
Body            RockMiddle
Panzer          0.05

By the way, this is how they are grouped together in DBW 1.71.
Perhaps things might have changed already.  ;)

Brilliant idea Whiskey_Sierra_972.  A re-organised static.ini will improve the situation for map-makers and mission-builders.  I agree with Uufflakke and would also suggest grouping like with like.  There are thousands of objects, of course, so we need some arbitrary groups to start out with:

Vehicles (there are many scattered about the static)
Rolling Stock (train related stuff)
Logistics (crates, boxes etc)
Clutter (piles of debris, weapons, cables, pipes)
Dockside (small boats, barges, piers etc)
Humans (several different groups)

Then buildings by theme/region/weather

Winter (snow)
European
Mediterranean
Tropical/Pacific

...its a start... ;D
