Installation not advancing ~SOLVED
« on: December 06, 2014, 11:52:58 AM »

Hello,

I recently got the urge to install IL-2 1946 for the first time in 4 years. During those four years I have switched computers and now have a Windows 8.1 64-bit machine.
So I inserted the disk and the autorun didn't work and after some googling I found a solution: open the disk contents and run a.exe. This worked, and the install wizard opened and I went
through all the steps. Then the game started installing and was supposed to start the usual slideshow of pictures. However, it got stuck at the 21% mark, Removing applications.
I waited patiently, but the disk wasn't even spinning.

So far I've tried to run a.exe in Win XP SP2 and SP3 compatibility modes and running it as administrator without results. I've been searching all forums but I haven't found a fix.

Any thoughts on how to fix this issue?

Hi,

For starters it may be worth giving the disk a good clean and checking there are no scratches on the surface

Thank you for replying, marcost.

I cleaned the disk and it was flawless, but the problem persists.

Take a look at this video's comments. There are two people saying they have the same issue as I do. I should have mentioned this before, my post made it look obvious it was
an issue with the disk. Besides, the game has been installed numerous times from the same disk before but on a different computer. Thank you for the suggestion, though.  :)

Still open for ideas.

Not really from knowing about this particular issue, but maybe one of these helps:
  • Temporarily disable your antivirus application
  • Run a.exe elevated (right click -> run as administrator)

Disabling antivirus didn't work, and running a.exe as administrator seemingly has no effect. I didn't think of antivirus, so thank you anyway.  ;D

I tried installing the game to C:\Games\Ubisoft\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946 as opposed to D:\Games\Ubisoft\IL2 1946 and the disk started spinning this time, but there was no progress past 21%.
Installing to the default folder in C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft etc. doesn't work either.

Some information, problem seems to be present both on Win7 and 8:

Maybe try this from the second link:

Quote
Browse the CD with Windows explorer and open the folder 1033.
Run the inside Autorun.exe and the install is done without problem.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!  ;D

It actually worked. My heart skipped a beat when I saw the slideshow start.

Thank you so much for all the help, guys. Now all I need to do is mod it  8)

Cool, I'm glad that it worked :)

Next step would be to patch your game to the latest version:
Here's an all in one patch: https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php?topic=38443.0

Did you decided which modpack you like?

There are quite a few choices for 4.10 and 4.12 game versions:

HSFX6 and DBW 1.71 for 4.10. DBW has large expansion packs called 'New-TFM' and 'The Full Monthy'.

HSFX7, TFM-412 and SAS modact 5.3 are for 4.12.

None of the modpacks has "everything". Some mods were not updated to 4.12 and will only work in 4.10 or below. But you can duplicate your IL-2 1946 install and have several modpacks at the same time. I got two: DBW 1.71 and SAS modact 5.3.

I'm currently downloading ''Stock 4.07m to DBW 1.71 SuperPack One-Stop Download & Install (the famous SAS F'nBigSuperPack !)''

It includes all the patches, UltraPack 3.0 (the modpack I used back then), and DBW 1.71, which I'm eager to try out.

Thats a good modpack, easy to install. You can also add ww1 planes to it: https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,26088.0.html

I got a problem with that modpack. I ran the first exe. as instructed and soon an error appeared on the installation progress list:
CRC failed in fb_maps15.SFS

The installation continued, but now the game wont start, no matter what mode it is set in via the IL2 selector. I just get a black screen and then return to desktop.
Should I uninstall and download the modpack from a different mirror?

I'm kinda derailing this thread now, hope that's okay.

EDIT: I saw this thread but it's not really helping me.

That error appears when one of the files, in this case one of the SFS files is broken.
What you need, is to grab that file again, i think.

of course, when you encounter a problem during the install, the game can not work, as it is missing some stuff :)

Since your game is not running yet and you are still stuck in the installation, the thread is not derailed, is it.
Still very much on topic, so keep on.
