Hi MrG,

Quick scramble points are a great idea!  AI returning to land on the main runway would work well in a mission I think, player can land where he likes.  :)

Although a scramble only take-off point doesn't necesarily require any taxi points of its own, be careful that it might still upset the AI's ability to navigate the existing taxi waypoints for the main runway.  It will probably all depend where the scramble point is on the airfield, and whether the AI 'chooses' the scramble waypoint in preference to the intended main runway waypoint when it lands.

Have you checked out Spdr109's airfield tutorial? It's a very good read:  https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,14115.0.html

All the best :)

Great job on a much under-rated, and almost lost, map.  I have had it in TFM-412 for some time where the AI is vastly upgraded; follows wayoints, can spawn where you tell it to, can taxi to take-off or sit where you put while wearing any skin than you give it, including skinnable statics.

I really do not understand why anyone would want to hang around with the dumbo 410 AI when the smarty 412 AI is so good!  Performance is better in 412 too, with much improved java code.

This map is brilliant in 412 and RAF Tangmere looks superb (I guess with your lineage this place is your natural habitat!) thank you KiwiBiggles.  ;D

Please pardon my 72 yrs worth of not being smart, but can one of you really smart guys tell me if all the above is contained in the TFM-412 and mods down through 37?  I have to confess - I just don't understand all the object things, etc, that are talked about here.  Beyond just putting stuff someplace, I'm lost.  Thank you for any advice or help you can provide.

WIP: Early 1940s Abbeville Airfield
=========================

"The Abbeville Boys"--JG 26--are something of a myth in that they were really posted all over nothern France with only HQ components more or less permanently based at Abbeville.  But, it's a good myth!

Abbeville was a very basic airfield for much of the cross-channel air contest, as seen in this popular image by Robert Taylor:

"Keine eigene Start- und Landebahnen . Stellen Sie die Flugsicherung für weitere Anweisungen!"

Airfield design is to launch and recover 16 fighters.  Abbeville early in the war is a hard layout to make look exciting compared to say Biggin Hill or Manston, but I'm pretty happy with the semi-historical feel...

This WIP airfield update is designed to capture the flavour of flying from Abbeville for JG 26 "Schlageter" on Canon's awesome English Channel 'dogfight' map with vpMedia's updates.

Check back soon for a download.

Cheers

Pass the shovel... a few more trees are needed around the airfield.  Then a little update for Abbeville village and my work here is done.  :)

Updated Abbeville village--just a few trees really--and having fun with an "Abbeville Depot" object template...

Hi Kiwi,
I'm trying to download "vp_mapmods_buildings_dbw_2012.rar"  but the link appears to be dead.
Do you know of another download site?
  Thanks,
    Ibis.

Being a dashing and handsome fighter pilot, I quite like to relax every now and again with some artillery spotting in my trusty old Sentinel.  Caen, of course, is a nice corner of this map for a Sunday arvo's chaos and destruction... but I think it wouldn't be hard to give the map a spruce up around Caen to make these missions a bit more interesting.

Here's the "before" photos...

I'll post some "after" pics later this weekend, and include Caen in the next update too.  :)

I already like Caen-Carpiquet airfield on this map quite a lot, so just a little update would be quite effective.
