Cut scenes and intro (tracks) in 4.12 campaigns
« on: September 02, 2014, 08:21:27 PM »

Hello

I've added to my 4.12 install some campaigns that worked in 4.10 and I've noted a minor problem with them that I'd like to fix if possible.

Some of the campaigns have intro and cut scene tracks that are played in their 4.10 version, but having moved them over to my 4.12 install those same tracks don't seem to want to play.  It's a minor thing but it seems a shame to not see the hard work people put into the tracks to give some extra narrative to their campaigns.

Does anyone know how to fix that?

Thanks in advance.

i actually have the same problem, would love to know what's causing it.
even with the intro movie (yes, all enabled in conf and so on), when i start the game, it seems to load the intro for a few seconds, then it just stops and goes into the menu screen....

Ah good to know it's not just me then.

Upon further investigation it appears it's not limited to addon campaigns either.  The stock Russian campaign Blinding Sun (DuklikPereval in the file structure) also exhibits the same problem.  I'm assuming it's a stock campaign, it was there in 4.10 and the intro worked fine?

For me the game goes to load the 1st mission, says "loading track" for a moment but then skips to the normal loading procedure and goes straight to the briefing screen.  The campaign.ini for that Russian campaign looks the same as it did in 4.10, the intro video is still listed as being found in the Intros folder, and sure enough the referenced track file is in that folder.

In 4.10 the game goes through the normal loading process then starts the intro video.  It doesn't display the "loading track" message at all.

Don't know if that's at all relevant, or helpful, but that's my observation of the issue so far.  I'm actually wondering if it's a bug in 4.12 that we can't get around...

EDIT - I just switched to "stock game" in the SAS Modact and the intro to the above mentioned Russian campaign works.  I think it's something in the modded install with SAS Modact + TFM 412 that is causing the problem...

EDIT 2 - Found the culprit.  Mission Pro Combo by P.A.L.  I disabled it in JGSME, switched back to SAS Modact in the selector, run the game, loaded the Russian campaign and hey presto the intro played, I'm guessing (but can't confirm) that others will now work.  I guess we have to switch off Mission Pro Combo for playing campaigns, which is a shame, I like the extra options it gives.

Just so that anyone else who is experiencing this issue knows, I've resolved it and I'm able to have Mission Pro Combo enabled.

It turns out that the load order of your mods in JGSME is part of the problem in this case.  I've just done a reinstall of the SAS Modact, and TFM 412, and put the Mission Pro Combo mod pack at the top of the load order and the intro for Blinding Sun works for me.  Can't comment on any others as I've not tried them yet...

I guess it overwrites files that cause the problem if it's not put in first.

EDIT - nope.  Didn't work for addon campaigns.  The Russian Blinding Sun intro now plays, where it didn't before but still none of the addon campaigns I've got that have intro videos and cut scene videos will play them.

I'll hazard a guess at there being something other than mod load order and Mission Pro Combo by P.A.L being at fault here.  Wish I knew what though?!

 >:(

EDIT 2 - Definitely think this is mod related now.  I just tried a campaign I've downloaded called 633 squadron, which is based loosely on the Mosquito movie of the same name, and the intro track for that works fine if I set the IL2 selector to run the game as stock.  So it has to be something to do with running as SAS Modact, and/or something in TFM 412.  It doesn't seem to be Mission Pro Combo related though as the same campaign's intro doesn't work with Mission Pro Combo disabled.

I'm kind of shooting in the dark here though because modding IL2 is not something I know a great deal about, but I really don't want to go through disabling/re-enabling all the TFM packs one by one and testing because it took me 7 hours to install them all again today to get Mission Pro Combo at the top of the list!?!

Little bit of success now after some further testing.  I've narrowed it down to not being caused by TFM 412.

It seems to be something to do with one of the following -

SAS Big clouds by Manysh
SAS Blender Waves
SAS Cowling Engines and Props
SAS CTO mod
SAS Forgotten countries
SAS FOV mod
SAS Small FX collection
SAS German gunpods
SAS Gore for all planes
SAS guncam tracers
SAS New mod wheels
SAS Random belt start pos
SAS Water-4 by carsmaster

I disabled all those, and I now have mission pro combo and flyable AI aircraft after all the TFM 412 packs and the 633 squadron intro now works when the game is run as SAS Modact.

Obviously now I have to go through the process of finding out which of the above is the cause of the problem, but that means disabling all the TFM packs and enabling them again, which as stated is a 7hr job!!

:(

I don't suppose there's any chance I can get away with having any of the above after the TFM 412 packs and not run into further problems?

EDIT - SOLVED IT!!

I narrowed it down to just one of the above mentioned optional SAS Modact mods - #SAS_Water-4 by Carsmaster.

If I have that mod enabled the intro for the 633 Squadron doesn't work (nor do any other addon campaigns intros).  If I have that mod disabled the intros do work.  At least for 633 Squadron and one other addon campaign I've tried.

Don't know how to modify that particular mod to fix the problem so the mod is usable, but at least I've solved the problem (for the moment at least) by disabling that mod.

Guess I'll be leaving my PC on overnight now though so I can reinstall all the mods in the right order (the TFM 412 thread says to install the #SAS mods first and I've now got them last in my list!).  Oh well...

Hope the info I've given here helps someone else out.

you're doing a great job of hunting down the problem, mate - and you're going about it in the right way, albeit rather long-winded, lol.
there's really no need to deactivate everything via jsgme, why not simply rename the suspect mods as you like to load first, or disabling them by simply putting a '-' minus sign in front of them.
anyway, you have the right approach to finding mod problems, wish more guys would at least try to resolve their own problems in this way, instead of just crying for help with every little issue.. :D

Thanks but I tried the - method to begin with, didn't seem to work at the time.  Besides I like to keep things tidy by using JSGME.  Just wish it didn't take so long to install TFM 412.

All I can do though is remove/add mod packs, I've no idea how to modify the numbered files within most of them.  Most I can do with IL2 modding is the editing the text files that I can open (like Campaign.ini's to remove/add missions to/from the list and stuff).

And yeah sorry about the long windedness.  I could probably scrap a couple of the posts and just have the solution noted.

no, by all means - your thread, your time typing - who am i to say otherwise, lol :D
what i meant by long-winded was the process - the deactivating/activating of packs and so on, as you mentioned ;)
