4.12 and Windows 7
« on: July 04, 2014, 09:45:42 AM »

I just upgraded my rig from Win XP to Win 7 and have some questions.

When setting landscape detail to Perfect either the water is black or everything is black with the exception of the aircraft, OR the Perfect option is greyed out altogether. With my AMD video card and the XP OS, everything was just as nature intended it.  Can someone share the proper setting in the conf.ini.

I have Win 7 Professional, NVIDIA GeForce GTX745 4GB DDR, 16GB Memory.   At a loss.  Thanks for helping me.

The experts will expect more info about your install and configuration.

But, Step #1: Make sure your game is NOT installed in Program Files. Copy and paste it somewhere else if it is. Win7/8 are very fussy about changes to the Program Files folders.

Thanks Cloyd.  I don't know what to post for the experts, but I can probably post whatever they require.  I have the game sitting in the C Drive outside of the program files.  Had no issue with xp.

They will likely want you to post your conf.ini and you should make sure that you are logging any errors. Make sure that in the [Console] section of your conf.ini that you have LOG=1, similar to below. That will create a LOG file in the game root directory that will show errors, if they exist.

[Console]
HISTORY=1024
HISTORYCMD=1024
LOAD=console.cmd
SAVE=console.cmd
LOG=1
LOGTIME=0
LOGFILE=log.txt
LOGKEEP=0

It could just be an ATI driver issue, but I know nothing about that

make sure that your video drivers are all updated as well, this doesn't necessarily happen automatically when using the new OS.
i had a similar thing when i moved over to Win 7, and i needed to update my video drivers, directx and all other possible drivers before i could properly make use of my graphics.
also, make sure in conf.ini, under the OpenGL settings, that HardwareShaders=1 is set, and not 0

I got this problem, and actually reinstalled the game a few times. But if i remember correctly, what fixed it was opening the il2setup.exe, and in the 'video' tab selecting 'Maximum Settings', after that the 'perfect textures' was no longer greyed out so i selected that, and i haven't had any problems since. Don't ask me to explain any of it though, I'm just lucky I somehow stumbled upon a solution ...
