Morane-Saulnier AI
« on: February 14, 2014, 11:16:52 AM »

The Morane-Saulnier AI (also Type AI) was a French parasol-wing fighter aircraft produced by Morane-Saulnier during World War I.
The AI was developed to replace the obsolete Morane-Saulnier Type N. Its engine was mounted in a circular open-front cowling. The parasol wing was swept back. The spars and ribs of the circular section fuselage were wood, wire-braced and covered in fabric. The production aircraft were given service designations based on whether they had 1 gun (designated MoS 27) or 2 guns (designated MoS 29). A number of escadrilles were created to operated the AI, but by mid-May 1918, most of the aircraft were replaced by the SPAD XIII. The aircraft became an advanced trainer, designated MoS 30. Fifty-one MoS 30s were purchased by the American Expeditionary Force as pursuit trainers.

This is a Parody?
I say its a very good parody!  8)  It looks very revolutionary for its time period. Great design and looks beautiful too.
There were not many one winged airplanes in WW1 war, but it was to be the fashion for the future.
Just like there were not many all-metal constructed fighters, but it was also tested at this time too.
Like the revolutionary late-war Junkers D.I , the first all-metal fighter. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Junkers_D.I
I like your design Kant. Excellent!

BIG CHEERS!

I think there were none since you need at least two wings to fly, ask any bird :)

Thanks but I just added the markings and few other small changes. The original skin & template is by Murdoc as usual.

Thanks everyone. They served until about May 1918, then were replaced by SPAD XIIIs.

I've been looking forward to a Swallow v Fokker DVIII v Moraine air battle but I'm having problems with the Moraine.
She's OK in level flight up to about 130 kph but over that she suffers from the same violent circular oscillations that the Pup had  >:(
Changing maps and altitude has no effect.
Anybody else had this problem ?
DBW 4.10 DBW 1916 patched to date.

Cheers
