IL-2 Selector DBW crash on start
« on: September 14, 2013, 08:06:03 PM »

When i try to start the game through the selector the selector closes as if the game started then almost instantly pops back up as if the game closed. When starting through il2fb.exe nothing happens, no process starts.
Have tried these fixes:
1. Making sure i'm not missing any files (checking through a friend whose game works)
2. Replacing lib and bin files retrieved from a friend whose game works
3. Increasing ram on from the selector

Well seems quite odd. Any chance someone else would know how this is solved? It happened to me months ago and I had to reinstall Il-2.  ;)

funny issue because I am having the same problem currently when I want to add a full TFM install to the 3.1 selector;
new TFM, DBW_1916 and SCW all work like a charme, but I cannot get TFM to run and it is showing the same symptons as you have described.....
when I find the time next week, I will try to solve that problem and post a solution, that is if I find one....

try deleting the 'last.quick' file inside the 'Quicks' folder?

but these are just guesses, please provide us with a bit more info on the type of install you have.
i also do not recommend increasing selector RAM to anything over 512MB.

my install is a 4.101m/DBW1.71 one with #DBW, #DBW_1916, #SCW and #TFM mod folders and a correctly configured 3.1 selector;
with the exception of the #TFM folder, all other mod folders are read by the Selector and I can run them without a problem;
my default RAM setting is 1024kb which also works for all mentioned mod folders without a problem;
the only thing that does not run is the #TFM partition;
I have tried to lower the mem value, as low as 256KB already, but it still did not work; will try that quick thingie, that sounds like a possible solution :)

cheers
phil

got your info, phil, cheers - was asking more about the OP's install. ;)
there could be several things causing this, i'd also have to go and look back through some previous tech threads on this issue, there are quite a few, and i think most of them have been resolved.
a bit busy today with family commitments, so don't let me hold you guys back from doing that legwork, lol :D
also, the eventlog might provide some clue....?

heya Malone! I am glad I have to work today and there is not that much going on fortunately, so I find some time to also read and browse through the forum :)
my issue is not that urgent, my new TFM install works like a charme and I want to get the original TFM to work only for the jets that are in there and the possibility to add some more 1950s onwards stuff....

so enjoy a nice family weekend then :)

Did you do all the required instructions on page one of the TFM on what files to remove prior to starting. Before I go further read page one again and make sure you follow the steps to a tee.

I have a clean IL-2 4.10 with the SAS Super F'n Big DBW pack. I haven't installed and other mods at all. I adjusted my ram to 512mb. Also, My game worked perfectly fine before and suddenly stopped working without me changing anything.
Just in-case here are my comp specs:
Processor: Intel Core2 Duo CPU E7400 @2.80ghz
RAM: 4 GB
System: 64 bit windows 7
Graphics card: Nvidia GeForce 660

mess with the RAM. It's a strange issue, but I've seen it happen before. Switch it between 256 and 512MB until it starts working.
