Hello, I'm new to IL-2 modding.

I have IL-2 1946 patched to 4.11M. I'm not sure what's the difference between 4.11M and 4.11.1, anyone know?

Will DBW or IL-2 work with 4.11M? If not what should I do?

DBW is not on the 4.11 or 4.11.1 patch but an earlier version

That will take you from the default game,which is 4.07 to 4.101m
4.101m is the patch that DBW is based on

Patches are in numerical order as the come out

You could patch you 4.11 game up to 4.12 
then install SAS Modact 5

Then install another game,patch with what I linked you to first for DBW
The first link Patches all patches needed, right from default game to 4.10 and installs UP3 and DBW along with DBW 1916

Ok, I'm downloading the 4.12 patch. I'm also downloading the Stock 4.07m to DBW 1.71 SuperPack torrent.

please don't forget the 4.11.1 patch, which is a fix for the 4.11M patch.
so, if you want to be on 4.12, the correct order is 4.101 - 4.11 - 4.11.1 - 4.12.

So for applying DBW for 4.12, how would that work? I've patched IL-2 to 4.12 and it works fine. When I apply the DBW mega pack it returns it to 4.10.1. What do I do then?!?!

Seriously, how do I get this all to work? I can't get 4.12 and DBW to cooperate, even with the new modacts. What's the order of installation. what is every single step to get this to work?

Do you have any working install and if so, what is it please?

Forget 412 for a bit, just get DBW working.

1. A clean 4.07m install.

2.  Run part 1 of the "Stock 4.07m to DBW 1.71 SuperPack" and point it to your 4.07m folder.
It will install all the other 18 parts of the " Stock 4.07m to DBW 1.71 SuperPack" into the game.

3. When it has finished, open your IL2 folder and scroll down until you get to the  Red Star in a blue box labeled "IL-2 Selector".

4.Click it and a selection box will open. Click on "Change Settings"

5. In "Game Type" select "Dark Blue World"

6. Click "Save Settings" this returns you to the first window.

7. Click "Start IL-2 now!"

8. Prepare to be amazed.

Let us know when you have DBW working and we will go on to 4.12 with the SAS Modact, OK?

You got following options:

For 4.10 - DBW 1.71 superpack
For 4.11 - HSFX6 modpack
For 4.12 - only the SAS mod activator, no large modpack yet

The main difference between the 4.10 and 4.11 version is the new AI.
4.12 introduced lot of cool features such as improved effects, ability for taxiing, skidmarks on the ground when crashlanding, etc.

I'm still using the 4.10 based DBW 1.71 superpack because it has the most aircraft, maps, objects, etc. Plus it starts in ww1 and goes thru ww2, Korea and bit of the Vietnam era. Many older mods will not work with 4.11 or 4.12 so read carefully the descriptions & posts when you install a mod for those versions. Every game version has a simple mod activator but I do not recommend it since youre a beginner so you should either get DBW or HSFX imo.

Ok, got DBW running in Il-2 4.10. Didn't know anything bout the Il-2 Selector, hadn't seen any instructions about that.

I'm seeing all the new aircraft and so on from DBW, but there's no single missions or pilot careers to use them. Is that all there is or am I missing a part?

the quick mission builder can be used to use these "useless" planes.
or the full mission builder.
the maps, maybe you miss the maps.
or the sounds.
or the objects
or the effects.

they did not have time to spend months coding the missions, so once this X gigabytes large package was done, the users of said package started to churn out missions.

but oh crap! what a bad service! what a halfbaked thing!
you have to find and download these missions and campaigns on your own, by checking mission4today.

really lazy Modders. and they call themselves enthousiasts. Pfff.

Hey dude, just asking.

There's a lot of stuff there. I just get frustrated as with all Il-2 modding there always seems very little comprehensive explanation of how to run things, or even what a mod is all about, it's objectives and what it changes compared to other games I have modded. Ironically SAS are the only people who seem to approach that on this website, which is how and why I turned my way here.
