Unusual Camo Type - Sopwith Camel
« on: May 08, 2013, 02:56:19 AM »

Here is a camo type that was apparently meant to confuse the enemy by making it harder to discern which direction the plane was flying in. The geometrical shapes on the fuselage, were meant to confuse enemy pilots ... the 3D trompe l'oeil patterns do look disorientating at first glance ...

It´s very true Bravo, not a joke.
Around 1890 until around 1930 everyones favourite drink at the local bar (other than beer)
was a glass of Absinthe.
They used to nickname it "the green faery"  ;D

Cool crazy camouflage in those WW1 years. I like it.
Everyone was doing it. One of the coolest I have seen was a fighter airplane all covered with transparent plastic, instead of the usual canvas covering.
It was a very early experiment in using the new invention of  "plastics".
Trying to make the airplane invisible.

OK, I found a good photo of one...
A Fokker E.III with fuselage and wings covered in transparent plastic  ;D

I had a sort of feeling that I was looking at something Escher might have made ... but then it would have been too early for that ...

Look at this photo of the USS Nebraska Battleship in WW1.
It looks almost the same as that airplane photo...
