I find it fascinating how symbols, sayings, and use and meanings of words change over time.  Got a recent reminder thereof when a friend with a PhD in English called up the local television station and attempted to make them aware that they had misused a word according to standard English.  They were very brief (rudely so) in announcing that, "Hey, we looked it up.  We're right." *Click*  Such things as the (incorrect) statement "Me and Annie are...", as it is stated by so many these days, when the correct statement according to the "old school" is "Annie and I are..."  (in singular, Annie is, I am, and always put the other person first, therefore, see previous), as an example that drives me up the wall.  But language is fluid, and the "correct" way of doing things seems to be whatever the mainstream says it is, regardless of the official rules or history.

When I was young I used to draw Swastikas, and was totally oblivious of what I was drawing, until I became older and realized what I was drawing (its meaning), oh the Innocence of youth, I reckon.

As maybe you knew law in Russia has changed  recently on this matter and now swastika is banned there.I am wondering how TD will solve this issue on upcoming patch.I am afraid both international and russian version of the game will have swastika disabled on default, and even conf.ini entries wont help, our moded game use russian il2.exe and files.sfs files with enabled swastika in game but be prepared you want see it anymore on the tails of the german planes.Only way to enable it back would be use of mod.

The swastika is a very old symbol. It's interesting that a number of diverse and far separated cultures used this sysmbol, which always had a good fortune connotation. The Native America Indians used a reverse swastika to symbolize good fortune and happiness. In Asia, Buddism is symbolized by the swastika. If you were to look at maps of Japan, where ever a Buddist Temple is located, the temple is indicated by a swastika. However, the Nazi's changed forever our generation's feelings and emotions about this symbol. I'm afraid that it has lost its original meaning and been replaced by something a lot more heinous.

found this here:
http://historicinsights.blogspot.co.at/2012/07/swastikas-in-skies.html

Quote
In the early 20th century, the swastika became a trendy good luck charm with people adopting swastika designs from Hindu culture, native american drawings and Nordic runes. The Swastika became a popular good luck symbol for people, companies and even military units.  This sweeping fad caused everyone including Coca-Cola to want a swastika plastered all over their packaging.   Von Rosen seemed to be no exception for the swastika craze, regardless its origin.
