Hi Jeanba...thx for your work...

Just a problem if this bird was too quick I think that now it is too slow....I try too escort Leo451 bombers with it..well
impossible...the bombers were too faster for him....

What do you think?

The "slower" version is not released yet.
If you use Epervier's mod, it should be  the fast one
You have to use prop pitch, the best being thrttle down, then prop pitch 90% then throttle carefully up (never above 2520 rpm).

I don't know anything about the LeO45 FM, but if from the Pe-2, it may be much too fast.

Please tell me what is your true max speed at what altitude if you still have problem.

Sometimes at medium-long distance the d-520 disappears and reappears
In dogfight is very difficult to follow with the sight  ???
This happens to someone else?

Visibility range fix
« Reply #149 on: May 21, 2013, 01:52:15 PM »

I actually quickly fixed the visibility range and some other LOD bugs just after release, but my fix is a bit messy with LOD values edited in so many parts. Anyway, I decided to share what I have due to some visibility distance bug reports. This fix is still a bit WIP because I haven't had the time to check it properly and some parts like right vator and stab require some 3D work to get proper LODs for them. Anyway, it works and looks OK in game for me, so maybe it is useful for others also. If you want to see these beautiful planes a bit farther away, just unpack the attached meshes and let them replace existing ones. The fixed nose profile in v1.1 is already included.

I actually hope to see updated version with this kind of fix already included and hopefully with better LODs for right vator and stab.

In the FM side I'm actually still using Günther's first version with one small fix: I changed Wing_Mid to 3.16 and Wing_Out to 4.41 in [Arm] section to fix odd roll instability in dives caused by longer outer wing arms than wingspan. I'm not sure whether the engine running at too low RPM with lower airspeeds is realistic, but at least that feature makes dogfighting funnily challenging in D.520 and also in MB.152. I've also had some funny fights with that sharp stall, but I read that the real plane also had such behaviour.

Then one thing that might be some bug is that controls are easily broken when shooting at D.520 with MGs. Most of my bomber interception missions end with broken controls and AI pilots usually bail out in a hurry after first hits due to broken controls.

The plane HAD a roll instability (towards the left) in dives and sharp turns, often almost without warning. The truth is that is plane never finished its development - as a matter of fact the first 200 planes produced were refused for front line operational service (200!).

The instability I fixed was not something like realistic instability towards the left but rather some odd high frequency vibration around the roll axis that suddenly started around 600 km/h IAS, so clearly an error in FM calculations due to longer wingtip arm than half wingspan. The roll instability and sudden stalls and spins in tight turns are still present in Günther's FM, and I like the challenge they give me when fighting against those Bf 109 with more power.

A pilot, a real pilot, pointed out to me that the "ball was giving turn rate indications instead of side slip. Now corrected".

Here is a small patch!

BUMP...in a really friendly way :)

The error quoted above occur in both versions (409 and 410) every time you fly upside down just for a pair of seconds.

Regards

@Epervier

Many thanks for your last fix!! (and that for Mb152 also)
