Okay, I have this working in 4.09, but in DBW 1.71 I have this log:

[23:31:26]   s1 = flightmodels/me-262(ofnowotny).fmd
[23:31:26]   s = FlightModels/Me-262(ofNowotny).fmd
[23:31:26]   m_lastFMFile = gui/game/buttons
[23:31:26]   sFMDir = firefly_fm
[23:31:26]   s1 = flightmodels/firefly.fmd
[23:31:26]   s = FlightModels/Firefly.fmd:Firefly_FM
[23:31:26]   m_lastFMFile = gui/game/buttons
[23:31:26]   getting fm file firefly_fm
[23:31:26]   Main begin: null
[23:31:26]   java.lang.NullPointerException

[23:31:26]      at com.maddox.il2.gui.GUIQuick.fillArrayPlanes(GUIQuick.java:2938)
[23:31:26]      at com.maddox.il2.gui.GUIQuick.<init>(GUIQuick.java:3371)
[23:31:26]      at com.maddox.il2.gui.GUI.create(GUI.java:158)
[23:31:26]      at com.maddox.il2.game.Main3D.beginApp(Main3D.java:1853)
[23:31:26]      at com.maddox.il2.game.Main3D.beginApp(Main3D.java:1548)
[23:31:26]      at com.maddox.il2.game.MainWin3D.beginApp(MainWin3D.java:211)

[23:31:26]      at com.maddox.il2.game.GameWin3D.main(GameWin3D.java:235)
[14.04.2013 23:31:26] -------------- END log session -------------

Can anyone make any sense of it?  With the firefly, the game CTD at 60 or 70%.  I have tried it with several different buttons.  The one in now is 10.3.

Thanks!

I'm using DBW 1.7, and I get a 60% crash starting up the game with this new plane. I installed the latest buttons, so what did I miss, here?

Hoddyman,

I am hopeful you can get the plane working in DBW 1.71 and then share how you did it.
I have it working fine in 4.09, but cannot get it in either 4.10.1 or 4.11, and I spent several hours trying.  It would be fun in the later versions.  I am not a 4.09 rebel, but I do like to have my older versions available.  Thanks for everyone's efforts.

Thanks for all your insights.  In my case it turns out that the buttons file is not the issue, but this mod solved it for me:

Thanks Piotrek1!  And everyone else.

The stuff in the links is a bit over my head- For instance, the Auto DiffFM is all about hsfx, and some modact that I don't know anything about, because I'm in DBW, where they put those somewhere else, or something, and then there's this whole discussion about changing something in the config.ini, which I'm not sure is something I would have to do to use this mod, or if it's something that this mod does. I have no idea what to do with this stuff. Thanks, though

love that bird. not a seafire, not a fulmar. Takes the best of both - all rolled into one.
The later marks with the griffin engines and the mosquito radiators were true beauties. Visual porn plane.
Love the subject and its realization. especially the wing, looks smooth.

Hoddyman,

As someone who did all that stuff, let me assure you that it is very simple.  If you want this plane in your version of DBW, all you have to do is download one file and put it in your DBW folder:

https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,24777.0.html

Get the "00_PAL-AutoDiffFMHSFX6+4111.rar" download and extract the file with the same name from inside it to your DBW folder.

Then install the Firefly just the way you would any other plane.  It will fly and fight as intended.

Ignore the rest.

For me, part of the fun is puzzling these sorts of things out, and no one here is as much an amateur as me.  I am an old retired English teacher who just happens to love aviation history and one computer game which sometimes allows me to pretend to relive some of the things I love reading about.  If I can figure this out, anyone can!
