Hi everybody

since the arrival of the new HD/True Color mod, we are starting to see some really impressive new 2048 size skins, with the possibility of even bigger sizes in the future.
in order to help make things easier for members to identify which skins are for HD and which for stock sizes, we have implemented a new HD icon for easy 'at a glance' identification.

here it is:   

so, we now have a cool new message icon to make everybody's lives easier. 
it is available in the message icon list, in your post preview menu.
it is imperative that any new HD skins are marked with this HD icon.
we ask that all skinners please take note of this, and use it.
we also ask that if you have existing posts that are HD, to please just modify your posts to include the HD icon.
admins will assist with this, but it would be appreciated if posters would also assist in updating any threads of theirs to reflect this.
as HD skins become more prevalent, we are bound to see many more being released.
it's important to remember at this point, that not everyone is able to use the HD mod, as some have hardware issues/older machines.
hence the need for this distinction.
please be considerate to others, and use this icon whenever applicable.

Malone and SAS Team; Kudos for implementing the new icon. Although I have an additional suggestion, if I may:

With all the recent x1024 'up-scales' popping up; perhaps it would be useful to feature a "THD" (True Hi Def) icon for use with skins created from an actual x2048 template. Yeah, I know; not another icon ..but I think some folks might have a difficult time telling the difference, just from the screenshots; and may be dissapointed to discover they just downloaded nothing more than an up-sized x1024 skin with only the markings or nose-art in hi-res, and perhaps a rivet or two.

Building an actual x2048 template from the ground up, is obviously quite a bit of work, and a 'THD' icon would distinguish these efforts from the re-sized versions; and might offer some incentive for skinners to create some 'real' hi-res templates and skins.

Just an idea; and thanks for considering.

Only real 2048 skins should get the HD icon.
Skins like the one Phas3e made.
A skin which has blurry panel lines in 2048 is obliviously a fake, its very easy to tell.
Not to mention the recent copyright issues.

Rudi, very good points, mate
however, i agree with vpmedia on this - if there is a separate THD icon, then we would almost, in essence, be promoting simple upsized 1024 skins, which we would rather not see at all, not to mention all the infringement issues with people simply upsizing someone else's skins, and calling it their own.
we will still be discussing this issue over the following weeks, but for now, the HD icon should only be used for true 2048 original skins, and not for upsized 1024's.
this might well change in the future, but for now it'll have to suffice.

Thanks for your responses mates. I agree completely with everything you said, and I'm glad that you also recognize the recent trend we've been witnessing. I was just trying to think of a way to distinguish the true from the fake; but I agree, there should not be any fakes in the first place, and certainly not any copied textures from other artists. Well said mates; thank you.

But then we would need to edit some posts made in skins section which are not true 2048x and have the icon and probably, to do so all the time 

So it might be easier and more consistent to actually create the THD icon, because people will regularly misuse the HD icon if it is only for true HD skins. In the long run, Rudi's idea seems more economical than having all the time to correct/eliminate HD icons on "quick" 2048x jobs threads.    Let us face it: faked HD will come at much higher quantities than true HD. So like it or not, people will use the HD icon regardless whether it is not intended for those jobs. Better and easier to have the THD icon added IMHO

looking into the skin section i can see that the HD icon is often used, but though there are nearly none real HD skins available, so i agree also with Crazyflack´s posting above

Isn't high definition impossible to fake?

At 72 pixels/inch (which the hi-res 2048 non indexed image is) a single rivet is one pixel.

If you resize an existing 1024 Photoshop template which, at that resolution, has one pixel rivets - a single rivet becomes four pixels in 2048

In the game the visual effect would be a Spitfire that has panels attached with 5/8 coach bolts instead of rivets...

In theory, yes, but most people won't care/notice. So yes it can be faked (we may use the word "shortcutted") and in fact it has been.

Semi? No. Either it is HD (all details reworked to 2048x standards) or it is not. Simple as that. Hence 2 categories TrueHD and HD (= which only means it occupies 2048x pixels and little else)
