And this is a very nice map ! But IS do apparently do not like some of the bases... had some crashes...

On these small islands, airstrips are not very long and bombers will have problems ... I got fighters up into the air as AI take-offs though ...

agracier, i tested it now, and i've got a real heavy fps hit with any kind of land/sea/horizontal type view, especially near the base at the southern end...
with only sea or sky in the camera, i have a solid 60-70 fps.
when i pan around to passing land, it drops into barely playable single digits.
i will experiment more, as i have also been making some changes to my conf settings, which might have influenced it....but i haven't seen such a drastic drop in a long time, and then only over densely populated areas...
will test more, meanwhile ;)

Hmmm ... in this case it can't be from too many objects ... cause the actors is really very minimal ... only 329k. There are some concentrations of palm tree objects along the coasts of islands here and there, I'd say on maybe 30% of the coastlines maximum, maybe around 25%.

But sometimes shallows can cause an frs drop when flying over water. I've had that a few times on other Pacific maps ... making a second shallows-free map_c is no trouble if you think that would help. Just let me know.

Will also check now...usually if it does gove me good FPS in a single flight it is ok.
Lower range PC I have..so I can tell if that reason is the map or something different for master Malone. ;)
BTW: Malone, I still enjoy your Pacific Islands remake!

thanks Tom - i had plans to revamp it with some steroids, which i might pick up again sometime... ;)
as i said, it's quite possibly due to one of the conf changes i made, but it was such a significant drop in fps, i thought i'd just mention it.
i don't think it's a population problem either.

Will check after some food..IIRC, it is your Pacific Islands map in my today's chaos flight screen session in the screenshot threat.
My oldest and goldest install, HSFX4.11 with HistoMod 2.1 lol and Tigers UV2 sound mod. :D I really love that  install and almost weekly updated it with new stuff.  :P

Here's a new map_C with no shallows at all. I removed them all.

http://www.sendspace.com/file/m8c51c

Since you guys are map pros you know how to use it. Either edit the load.ini so it points to the new map_C_no_shallow.tga, or rename the new map_C in accord with the original map_c.

In both cases, don't forget to keep track of the changes and what is what.

Some shots..
Especially loved the eastern islands and thew airbases not on the screens.

FPS seem reasonable here. Keep in mind the hi res trees can also cause FPS drop, I think even the cloud layer used (harmless here) in general can play a role.
FPS for me are similar to redko's Palau, not huge but also not as low as e.g. when I fly over the Sidi Ifni mod where I added even more buildings and basically made it an infamy to lower end PCs..
Appears ok to me.

ALso have a nice gapa setting for it.-

PS: Scratch what I mentioned above, I do not think that cloud layers play a role here, regardless of the map.
Trees, shallows etc maybe. :-\
The map definately went ok for my rig, in the lane of possibly Benghalli and
Palau.
However I use the tuned down version of carsmaster's Hi Res mod base. But I did not see many default trees, rather palms and other things.

Cheers

I do indeed almost invariably use the largest sized clouds texture ... and there is also one mod, part of which I do not use just because of frs loss, which has a huge sun.tga texture included. It might be 'Light in the Beta', but don't hold me to it. It may be another mod. It is a great mod as is and works fine without the sun.tga.

Great screenshots btw.

I also deactivated one of the new big textures.

The #DBW/mod part of carsmaster's light mod features a few nice items which can (not have to but can) be deactivated nevertheless. IIRC I kept the effects sunglare part e.g. and deactivated 3DO and others like the sun.tga.

Also I liked the sun from an earlier version better, matter of taste of course.
