Objects disappear
« on: January 23, 2013, 09:57:23 PM »

Hello, I am wondering why some of my objects, (moving vehicles) disappear at certain camera angles/zooms and re-appear at other angles/zooms.

Id attach a few photos but I can't seem to figure that out. The shadows are still there, moving along, and with the willy jeeps, the two dudes and the shadow stay and move along the waypoint. Odd. Any suggestions? My graphics are all maxed out and conf.ini has been changed with forest-3,water-4.

Thanks!

this kind of thing can sometimes happen with too many objects in the scene at once, also combined with too many fx.
you might want to look at using an alternate fx mod, one which reduces the amount of particles.
make sure in your conf.ini, that Effects=1 is used, do NOT use 2 or anything else.
besides this setting, there's not much to be done other than to reduce the amount of objects, or perhaps a bigger, badder gpu will help.
start by looking at which fx are being used, and try an alternative.

I noticed this with the first batch of Wflyers vehicles long time ago (jeep, stud. truck, boforsguns, etc), its a  for which the only quick fix is to extract old vehicles from stock sfs files and load them from #DBW folder. Whatever the cause of this problem its not present in the newer Wflyer armor & vehicle packs.

Thanks guys, I will check the conf.ini, I might actually have effects=2. (I did before DBW install)

I have 4.10.1 installed with the newest DBW/UP, thats all the mods I have. As for the gpu, here are my specs, not sure if they have anything to do with it but I thought I'd post in case.

Intel® Core™ i7-3820 Quad-Core 3.60 GHz 10MB Intel Smart Cache LGA2011
Asetek 510LC Liquid Cooling System 120MM Radiator & Fan
2TB (2TBx1) SATA-III 6.0Gb/s 64MB Cache 7200RPM HDD (Single Drive)
8GB (2GBx4) DDR3/1600MHz Quad Channel Memory (Corsair Vengeance)
(3-Way SLI Support) Gigabyte X79-UD3 Intel X79 Chipset Quad Channel DDR3 ATX Mainboard w/ UEFI DualBIOS, Dolby Home Theater 7.1 Audio, GbLAN, USB3.0, SATA-III RAID, 4 Gen3 PCIe X16, 2 PCIe X1 & 1 PCI
Windows 7 Home Premium [+104] (64-bit Edition
850 Watts - Thermaltake Smart Series SP-850M 80 Plus Bronze Modular Power Supply
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 570 HD 2.5GB 16X PCIe Video Card

As for the amount of objects, I was testing a new campaign I am making and it is definitely geared toward pushing the game to its max, I figured I would know I hit the wall once my machine started to slow, but I was still good with no FPS hits.

I will take a look at the conf.ini and do a quick test with one plane and one vehicle to try to eliminate the 'too many object' possibility. Will check back tomorrow evening. Thanks for the responses.

well, your pc specs are more than adequate on all counts, so you'd be looking at either some conf.ini adjustments, or perhaps an alternative mod -
the one vpmedia has suggested may well be worth a go. ;)

Ok, sounds good. As for vpmedia's suggestion, can you give me a little bit more info on how to do that, I am a novice when it comes to stuff like that. Thanks

So my effects=1, I also made a mission with the same moving vehicles only and my plane, no issues, they never disappeared. I booted up my other mission and came across the same issue as before, so does that mean I just have too many objects, also, if I move around the zoom and angle, they reappear, is this because the amount of objects in view change? Ive also noticed it only applies to moving vehicles, nothing else. Here is my conf.ini file. Thanks in advance!

...is this because the amount of objects in view change?.

yes, this can often be the case, especially if you pan the camera so that a nearby city is in view - the amount of objects in cities can cause this. (big cities are renowned for this)
your conf looks okay, i recommend for much better graphical look, change the LandGeom=2 to =3. this should make things look much nicer.
everything else looks okay, so it's likely too many objects in view in that particular mission. ;)

Thanks, I will check out the conf.ini suggestion as soon as I get another monitor... mine crapped out tonight. I thought it looked pretty sweet already so I am excited.

One last thing, do all the objects have the same weight when it come to my issue? For instance, do my static B17's rank the same as those beach obstacles? Reason I ask is if its just the overall object number then I could get rid of things that are less important. Or is there a hierarchy or is it only the objects in view and not the overall amount?

it is not so much amount of objects, as it is amount of different objects, that causes problems.
i don't think it is so much the 'weight' of the objects, but obviously, if the objects are highly detailed, it will have more impact.
so, if you had 100 objects of the same type, it should be okay. but if you have 100 different objects types in the scene, it will be more of a problem.

Not to forget the settings in the Nvidia-Profile (V-Sync on , AA-Gammacontrol on) and the RAM issue (1024 MB) sometimes I think all these play a role in a good setup. ;)
