Noseart resolution
« on: April 27, 2012, 08:55:20 AM »

This may seem like a lame question but here goes....

I've noticed that the in-game (stock) noseart when selected keeps it's crisp, clean resolution/appearance.  When I try to add my own custom noseart and add it to a skin template it loses resolution when I shrink it down to fit on the fuselage.  It's not terrible but certainly not the crisp image of stock.

Am I missing a particular technique?  Any advice is appreciated.
thanks.

Yeah. The noseart place in the noseart is shown the same way the markings for the planes are shown. They are a different size and the coding sets the size in which they are displayed on the aircraft. I cna't explain it any better than that since I'm not a modder. They can do a better job at that than me. I think it has something to do with .msh and.hier files?

the stock "noseart option" is a sticker, a completely different texture from an other folder, applied on top of your plane skin (1024) skin, therefor it is crisp.

but when painting a skin, and you add your noseart on that skin directly, you have to shrink it a LOT... so, yea, its normal that it kind of stinks visually.

so:
use the noseart you want, and put it on a 512 high and 256 large bitmap 256colors (i think) with a grey background and put it in some folder called "noseart" somewhere in the skins folder...

110G,  You are correct 256 by 512 px 256  colors.
