I defenitly want to test fly those new aircraft with the much improved 3-D.
When I have the time, I will also paint some new skins for them, JapanCat deserves some
extra nice skins for his great creation. He´s a great artist

I reinstalled IL 2 1946 last year from a CD. I installed SASs Mods this year but went too far without backing up - I know, sharp intake of breath, my fault. IL 2 became too unstable and the game would go to 15% load then close to desktop.

I deleted IL 2, saved SAS mods to disc and tried to reinstall from CD again, but when the install window appears, the "install" button is not highlighted - although the "play" button is.

Any light to be shone on this enigma? Or is it me?

BTW, I took the IL 2 file out of Programs and set up on my Desktop to allow quicker access - would that affect it?

a) bad idea. keep your deskltop clean and light.
b) put it bacck, and in the cntrol panel of your Winblows, choose the applications and programs icon.
uninstall il-2 from there


after installing, copy the main game folder somewhere safe. you dont need any install thing... the game runs fine without-

I think desktop is a good idea... but it's just your opinion.

actually, it's not such a good idea to have the whole game on your desktop. unnecessary use of system (memory) resources, imho.

Many thanks all, I've just deleted IL 2 and can now reinstall from cd - must be me!!

Can I have 2 installs - one on desktop for SAS mod tweaking and use that one, and 1 in program ubisoft file as backup, or will they both clash?

Alright folks, I am back with some GREAT News!
EVERYTHING IS WORKING SUPERB!! 

Now here is what I did, for all you guys and gals that are still having problems installing this...

Make sure to make a de-fragmentation of your harddrive disc FIRST to write all
the stuff neatly into your pc! - THIS IS A MUST DO !
So, go do it! I don´t care if you did it last week, do another!

next... start out with a CLEAN version install.

1- Install game from DVD...or whatever you got it from.

2 - Then add-Install ALL patches as follows...

3 - 4.08m - can be found on the CD, install from there

I hope you've installed the hotfix after you've turned the selector into stock game mode and unchecked every DBW mod in jgsme! Although that hotfix seems to be uneccesary with Superpack!

Did you enable via jgsme the 6DOF thing?

However try to change the RAM size in the selector...many find good 512Mb (I'm good with 1024Mb)

Then, for the first time, launch IL2 from selector

I forgot to mention, I used the DBW 1.0 to 1.71 SuperPack One-Stop Download & Install
and installed it as instructed.

You ask...Did you enable via jgsme the 6DOF thing?
I haven´t a clue what is that. Is it related to the TRACK-IR thing on that window?
I am not using one, so I dd not check it.
I will check it and give it another try.

BTW - A while back I noticed there was a "DBW 1916" on teh list of game-options, but now it
does show up on the list. Where it go? LOL

It's my fault, sorry...cause I'm using TrackIR (you also?) so I must enable with jgsme the related DBW mod 6DOF.

I haven't installed the Superpack...my IL2 come from DBW1.0 to every subsequent update since 1.71+hotfix.

Your error seems to be related with some java memory limit: as I said try to lower yor RAM size with the selector bar.

Otherwise set your game in "stock mode", backup your mods (always!), deselect everything in jgsme...and then reinstall DBW 1.0 to 1.71 SuperPack One-Stop (better if you unzip it in another folder and then you copy a piece at a time on your IL2)
